Vivaldi 1.15 RC 2 – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.15.1147.32

  • @burbuja Thanks

  • Vivaldi Ambassador

No thanks from me. This snapshot is slow, not responsive. IOW, it's terrible. Click on an open tab...nothing. Try to close a tab...nothing. Try to close V...nada. Tried to download this snapshot to save...forget it.

Why download the full snapshot? I want to create a stand-alone without any extensions, bookmarks, etc.
Now that I know how to create a stand-alone I thought it would be nice to have an "empty" browser for testing purposes. You know, like now, to test my issues.

@para-noid Thanks for your comment, but nothing here helps anyone to diagnose or fix your problems. Your bitterness is not a tool for the developers to employ.

Here, my snapshot is working famously, quickly, responsive, smooth, renders everything, etc. And it's not clean. It's been updated, snapshot on top of snapshot, for going on a couple of years, now.

So, let's see - what could be causing the difference between your experience and mine? Oh, that's right. There is no way for me to tell. Anything you can tell us about your platform, hardware, settings, 3rd-party applications like security software or other apps that plug in to your overall platform to affect your user experience, whether you have tried enabling or disabling things like hardware acceleration, etc. - all of these things can help to build a picture of what might be going on at your end, that the developers could have some impact on at their end.

@para-noid I am also unable to account for why you would have trouble downloading a clean copy of the snapshot. Something geographic? a VPN? A national internet monitor? A bad router? Compromised local internet service?

Here, the entire snapshot downloads in about 19 seconds. Perhaps you should reset your internet connection and try again.

@ayespy Yeah, there were three things screwing up the download.

    1. This one is on Vivaldi. On the Blog page in the upper right hand quadrant there are two download links. One is for the stable the other, directly below it is the snapshot link. The stable link worked to perfection. Not the snapshot.

    2. This one is on on me. The "active" snapshot link is at the top of the blog article. I didn't even try that one.

    3. This one is also on me. I didn't think about resetting my interweb connection. This one is what actually fixed everything.

Sorry about the attitude. But after trying five different browsers and nothing working frustration has a nasty habit of setting in. I now have a "naked" snapshot standalone just for testing.

@Ayespy Thanks for the tip. Again sorry for the attitude. PEBKAC is a very real condition.

  • @mozzer No crash here.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm going to ping the community admins.

  • @mozzer I closed and reopened some windows earlier today with no crashing. Haven't had a crash with Vivaldi since VB-39450 was fixed.

  • @para-noid It looks like you are the only one with such a bad expereance, so the problem is probably not Vivaldi ....

  • @raed I almost never access my bookmarks this way, but after reading your post i tested it. Your described symptoms also apply here for me. I have no idea for how long the problem has existed, but certainly it exists now.

  • There seems to be still the problem with
    developer tools > Audits

Known? Important? I think not that much ...

  • Looks like the bug with focus not leaving controls when the mouse leaves the control is not entirely fixed. If you open any of the side panels, like bookmarks or downloads, and then close the panel, the topmost control will have highlighting as if the mouse were hovering over it.

Purely cosmetic and most people will probably never notice, but if one of the devs is bored, maybe they can fix it.

I dont see this problem here. I am not sure, if it is related but: dont you use user.js? May be there were some changes. I noticed this problem in the past on the toolbar, but now it looks like to be fixed.

  • I think this RC will be the stable today 🙂

  • @burbuja Yes, this is the same issue, just in a very limited scope, so if it doesn't get fixed any time soon, I'm not going to worry about it. Also, I do not use the user.js file for anything. All of my settings changes are done via the browser's settings window.

For the devs, here's a progression of screen captures to help show the issue. Also, not quite sure how I managed it, but now the issue has shifted to the Notes panel.

    First the default state

Then open one of the panels

Then close the panel and the focus stays on the control, even when the mouse is not hovering

Initially this always affected the bookmarks panel button, but somehow I managed to get it to switch to the notes panel. Not sure how I did that, or I'd share with you. I can't get it to revert back to the bookmarks button anymore either to try to figure out the steps.

If you can find the issue and fix it quickly, great, but it doesn't affect functionality in any way that I can discern, it's just a minor cosmetic issue that I probably only spotted because I've done some UI work of my own and am a little obsessive about the small details of user controls.

  • @aerogems I see it now, using a light theme:

Is it what you mean? The background of my customized notes-icon. (The 3rd. one from the top) It was impossible for me to see it before with a dark theme.

  • I still see the issue with the Notes Panel not redrawing. I thought that was fixed?

  • Vivaldi Translator

@aerogems, @burbuja: It's not repeatable so easy. From what I've discovered so far, you have to use that windows for some time (even couple of hours). Then when closing one of them Vivaldi is crashing.

  • @pesala You're right. I'm pretty sure it was fixed, as I stopped seeing the bug. But now i see this issue happening again.

  • @rtransformation ... the mail & feeds cliënt in a way the old Opera had 🙂
