Super Drag and Drop
-
Highlighting text and be able to drag [or click and hold for links] and drop the text [ or link] within the view port and searches [or opens] in a new (background) tab.
Like what Maxthon has implemented:

Please add a feature known as "super drag and drop". It is a killer feature first popularized by Maxthon web browser. It is kind of like a unique gesture-style function that lets you create new tabs from certain content, and it is activated by simply dragging certain content a few pixels in any direction on screen and then releasing. Here is what it lets you do...
- Drag a hotlinked text to open the link in a new tab.
- Drag selected text to paste and go into the address bar in a new tab.
- Drag a hotlinked image to open the link in a new tab.
- Drag a non-hotlinked image to open the image in a new tab.
Drag at an angle of over 45 degrees to activate it. If under 45 degrees, then it should just perform normal selection, so we can still select hotlinked text and images like normal. And please also let us customize the angle of activation, between 0 and 45 degrees. If we set it to 0 degrees, that means it will always activate, no matter what angle.
While dragging, we should be able to cancel the drag by pressing ESC or right click.
Please also add a toolbar button to let us quickly toggle it on/off and to visually indicate the on/off status of it. Toggling it off is sometimes necessary to prevent it from getting accidentally activated in some situations.
VIDEO: Here is a brief intro video about it from Maxthon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4x8Hcb6nxAY
EXTENSION: Here is a good example extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/super-drag-for-google-chr/dlknjglebgomjjfaijjnebecgjbfjihk

It actually is. I was looking at a lot since moving from Maxthon as that was a feature i loved. Ended up using DragIt!, which has the option to open a tab in fore/background based on which way you drag. As nice a feature as that is it wasn't as well implemented as the Maxthon solution in terms of how you can select/drag text and links.
This extension seems to work almost exactly the same as Maxthon and with 100% accuracy meaning i can finally let go of using the middle mouse button which was flaky for me as well.
I upvoted the request, but so long as this extension keeps on working i'll be happy.

+1 please bring Super drag and drop to vivaldi!!!

Hmmm, seems not so. drag/drop in text fields is broken, which is big downer for its use.
And as noted above, it needs an option to cancel a drag.

for the extension, you can give feedback to the dev in the extension page's "support" tab.

just started to use Vivaldi and loving it, would be great if this feature can be added

I miss this feature terribly from Firefox with addon "Easy DragToGo+".
I don't know if the Chrome extension linked above has customizable option or not but here are some settings screenshots from my Firefox days. As you can see it literally had every option you can think of and all are customizable. I hope Vivaldi would add something like this.

this feature is a must. wonder why current vivaldi cannot do that

What's the status of this?
Do Vivaldi developers ever chime in on this forum to manage expectations about which features we should look forward to?
-
Be patient and in the meantime use the extension DragIt!

@drewquinton Very rarely, and not nearly often enough.
You can look at the Tags for feature request threads.
- NICE TO HAVE. (Translation: difficult to do)

No ETA is ever given. Hints that something is getting closer are utterly meaningless. So is my death!

does the DragIt! extension allow you to cancel a drag by right clicking?
-
@TsunamiZ I am afraid not.

That is one of the downsides of all the super drag extensions that i tested. I ended up changing to Super Drag for Google Chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/super-drag-for-google-chr/dlknjglebgomjjfaijjnebecgjbfjihk>
Still can't drag/drop text in text boxes or cancel a drag, but i like it more as you can be less exact in dragging to open a link. Much more like the Maxthon implementation.
Making it work in text boxes and a cancel option really need to be added to make a good extension a great one.

for the "Super Drag for Google Chrome" extension, i emailed some feedback to the developer at [email protected] on oct 8, 2019 but i never got a reply. i found his email by google searching. if anyone finds a more reliable way to reach him, let me know.
