No favicon showing for custom search
-
Hi there, I've been using Vivaldi since Technical Preview 4 but this is my first post on the forums
I've added Emojipedia as a search engine with the nickname e but when I trigger it no favicon is displayed in the address bar.
Is there a workaround for when a favicon isn't found at the point the search engine's set up?
-
@panthro I can confirm the problem on emojipedia. I have not found any solution yet. I reported a bug for TypeDrawers.com, which suffers from the same issue.
(VB-36277) No Icon for Search Engine Added on TypeDrawers

@pesala OK thanks. I think at present Vivaldi must just be looking for /favicon.ico rather than extracting from the meta tags.
Also, I recognise your avatar. Did you use to have a blog with Opera tips, tricks and code?

You may be confusing me with Tamil. My Opera Blog was mostly about Buddhism, but my Custom Buttons thread was quite active on My Opera.

@pesala Custom Buttons, that was it. I particularly remember a button with page info like the Last-Modified timestamp, I used that a lot.
I recognise the name Tamil.
Sadly I can't access the cached version as my current ISP blocks the Wayback Machine

I found a workaround by adding a search engine for another site. I copied the Title and URL from the TypeDrawers search engine, then deleted the unwanted site's search engine.

@Pesala Thanks for this workaround. It still works in Vivaldi 4 as well. (I use it to register multiple search strings for Google, but with different search parameters.) It works great although the possible search icons that you can get from a different search engine is limited
-
Thanks for the reminder. I improved my search with menu with a few borrowed icons.
-
@pesala Please, could you explain the workaround with an example?
-
- Click the search icon at the top of this forum
- Add the Vivaldi Forum search as a Search Engine
- Edit the address to:
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=site:forum.vivaldi.net+%s
- Assign a nickname
- Rename the Search Engine from
forum.vivaldi.net
to “Vivaldi Forum Search” or whatever you wish
