Account Syncing Across Different Platforms
-
Hi,
Vivaldi web browser is certainly THE BEST browser I've used so far.
Hoping you'll consider adding user account syncing functionality in the future release. That is, the same user's setting (e.g. bookmarks, view history, entensions, special dial contents, ...etc.) could be accessed on different computers & across platforms (e.g. in between PC and Mac). With that, I'm sure this functionality would definitely boost Vivaldi's popularity to the next level!! Many thanks in advance!!Best regards,
Marc -
@bhchen, hi, sync is already in the latest snapshot.
Some hickups still but work fine with me on 4 Win/Lin systems.Cheers, mib

@bhchen Sync is included under vivaldi://experiments in both Stable and Snapshot releases at this time. It works well across platforms.
-
Thank you both for your kind hints on this issue. Sooooo glad to see this function is being tested and will be officially implemented soon!!
Best,
Marc -
@ayespy
It would be nice to not have to sync all the data from Vivaldi between the different platforms but to be able to choose what gets synchronized to which computer/mobile device. For example, on a PC at work I might only want to sync my Vivaldi settings and one of the bookmark folders but not more. Or a shared bookmark folder for the whole family - and all other things are kept private on these devices.
Would that be possible to implement? -
@martin-storch Maybe. I can't think how.
-
@Ayespy The "Pipeline" tag here is probably outdated
-
@rotfl Possibly. There is a setting to choose which data are synced, But there is not a setting to sync different data to different devices.
-
@ayespy You meant that:
- There is no "centralized" way (via vivaldi.net) to choose that.
But user can set this up from client side viavivaldi://settings/sync/
- It is not possible to sync only a part of bookmarks / etc.
If so, then IMO title of this thread requires to be changed
- There is no "centralized" way (via vivaldi.net) to choose that.
-
@rotfl But what if you set up one machine to sync only notes, and another machine to sync only bookmarks, and a third machine to sync only notes with the first machine? You can't.
-
@ayespy I don't know how the data is structured on the sync server, but adding selective sync might not be too difficult. Different installations of Vivaldi could, in theory, simply only request (or update) part of the data on the server.
