Re: Default search engine doesn't work if there is a matching suggestion from history or bookmarks
Spent the entire day today trying to ream out what I thought was a Yahoo Browser Hijacker ... without success.
My default search engine is Google, but my searches were ending up on Yahoo. It took me a while to realize that it only happened when I typed the query into the address bar, and even then, it seemed infuriatingly random.
Finally I ran across the referenced post (by the same title), and did a bit of testing ... and discovered that what is described in the post is exactly what's happening to me. I also have the same version of Vivaldi. (1.14).
If I search on the word "test", and my typing history has the word "contest" in a query made in another search engine, it will use that engine instead of my set default search engine. If I search on the letter "a", the first search engine in my typing history that has the letter "a" in a word is the engine that's going to do the search.
I'm also experiencing the issue of typing in a word for a search, and having Vivaldi try to use it as a web link ... as the poster of the original article described, when the search term "Vivaldi" was used, and the browser simply went to the Vivaldi website rather than search on the term.
The person who wrote the original complaint said that reinstalling Vivaldi made a difference, but since Vivaldi can't be reset without losing all of my bookmarks, passwords, etc., it's not something I want to do.
Hoping this problem will be addressed soon. I really like Vivaldi, and would hate to have to go to a different browser. Thanks.
