Print Web Page to PDF
-
Does anyone know why printing a web page as a PDF doesn't work (on my computer anyway: W10) if I try printing the copy I've saved as an .mhtml file?
-
@lakeinholland Best to ask in the right place.
What is the destination set to?
-
@pesala Why do you say Best to ask in the right place? Isn't this thread about printing web pages to PDF?
-
The destination isn't set to anything. I use Foxit Reader's printer and that uses whichever folder it's set to. I don't think I even see the panel you show here. Sorry, some miscommunication I fear.
-
@lakeinholland Click on the Change (destination) button and select Print to PDF.
-
@lakeinholland The thread that you posted in was a Feature Request to add the option to the context menu.
It can already be done from the Print dialogue. You asked because you did not find the right option.
-
@pesala I give up. I'm finding it incredibly difficult to find my way around here. I thought I was pasting in a thread about printing web pages to PDF, and now it seems I'm not. I must have somehow been misled by the text at the top of the page. If you're telling me that printing a web page that hasn't been saved is different from printing a web page that has, why don't you say so? Then I'd know. I just can't see the difference. Except that Ctrp-P simply doesn't do anything. Just forget I said anything at all and delete my messages if they are in the wrong place.

@lakeinholland said in Print Web Page to PDF:

You were posting a question about printing in a feature request thread to add Save a Webpage as PDF to the context menu.
If you stick to the topic perhaps we can work out what the issue is.
The dialogue in my screen shot is shown when you Print a Web Page. The Destination is not the folder on disk, but the printer to use, which could be Foxit or CutePDF or Chromium's save as PDF.
I don't know why the print dialogue does not appear for an mhtml file that has been saved and reopened. Try setting your default printer to Foxit and print from Windows Explorer.
-
@lakeinholland I tried this experimentally and, on Win10, at least, it looks as though the print dialog for an open MHTML page in Vivaldi cannot be activated. Would you be so kind as to file a bug report? If you will, I will go into the bug tracker and confirm it.
-
I tried setting Foxit as my default printer, but when I do that there is no Print item on the menu for *.mhtml files.
I suspect that this is not a bug in Vivaldi, but a fundamental problem with the file format. You can print it to a real printer, but not a virtual printer.
-
@pesala I can't get a print dialog AT ALL in Vivaldi with an MHTML file. It simply won't appear.
-
@ayespy I was talking about printing from Windows Explorer, which seemed to work before, except that my printer was switched off, so the job was queued.
-
@pesala Ah, well, I can do that (or from Edge, or Opera, or Chrome) but not from Vivaldi - which, for my money, is a bug. If Vivaldi can save and open MHTML, it should be able to print it.
