Separate Position Settings for New Tab and Open in New Tab
-
At the moment, starting tab position can be set independently for:
- New tabs
- Cloned tabs
When I create a new blank tab, I want it to appear at the end of the list. But when I right-click on a hyperlink and select "open in new tab", I want it to appear next to the current tab. This seems logical for effective tab grouping.
A third setting for new tabs spawned from current tabs would be ideal. But the same purpose could be served by simply counting these as cloned tabs.

@dannyromano
Hi, may i don´t understand but cloned tab is already next to current and there is a setting in "Tabs" for open as last for new tabs.Cheers, mib
-
Tabs opened from the focused web page via "open in new tab" (or middle click) are currently not treated as cloned tabs. I'm suggesting they should be.
-
@dannyromano One way to get the desired behaviour already is to use Tab Stacks, and open links in the same tab stack.
The feature request is valid, but this may help your workflow.
-
@pesala Thanks. But for some reason, it doesn't behave that way for me. Besides, as much as I like the concept of tab stacks, I feel their usefulness is negated by the fact that they stack sideways. If you work with vertical tabs, you tend to want your tab stacks to be vertical as well. That could be another feature request, but one thing at a time!

Correction, that does work. You have to tick the option to open tabs in tab stack. You can also get vertical display for tab stacks by using the window panel, so that works well. I just wish you could have multiple panels, and I would like it if you didn't have to double click tabs to activate.

This would seem to negate the utility of tab stacks, which is chiefly the ability to have a group of related tabs contained in the space of a single tab. You couldn't actually do this vertically, as there's too little room. Of course you can have a collapsible tree, as in the Window panel.
-
I need this feature so much (and I don't want to use tab stacks). An addition to it: it should also include clicking on a link with the mouse wheel to open a new tab.

The collapsible tree via the window panel is an ideal tab management method, though it has shortcomings. You can't keep it and a web panel open concurrently, which is a problem for those who have already embraced web panels as part of their workspace. Secondly, the need to double click a tab to activate it seems less than intuitive. They should behave like tabs, not bookmarks.
Seeing others agree, I have to repeat my initial notion. Letting tabs group themselves naturally when spawned from an original tab is logical.
-
I'm also in need of this functionality. Many browsers behave this way and I find this behavior, well, if not logical, then at least something I got used to

I support this feature request. Actually the standard behaviour can be quite dumb, it may open the tab behind the current one based on some internal logic.
-
PLEASE DO THIS!
Not only does it make sense, but, for me, it is also an accessibility issue. This would be very helpful! -
+1 here as well

@LeMaster Vote for the first post if you haven't already done so. (Voting again will remove your vote).

I very much support this feature request!
Re: tab stack workaround: I tried tab stacks but I found I was accidentally stacking tabs and then 'losing' the tabs because the tab stack indicators are too subtle.

Generally, the mouse wheel click maps to a middle click, which maps to "open link in new window" when clicking on a link. Since the request is to have an option for "open link in new window" to have a separate configuration, I anticipate that if the feature were added, it would also work with the mouse wheel.

@DannyRomano To obtain what you want use the extension "Tab Position Options":
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tab-position-options/fjccjnfkdkdmjohojoggodkigkjkkjhl
You define that the "Start Page" always open last and the "new tab" right of current tab, as in settings:
This extension do many other things like define where a link in a page open: in New tab or the Current Tab.
Give it a try.

@barbudo2005 Thanks for the tip about Tab Position Options, but I can't get it to work. I have set the new tab page to vivaldi://startpage (in the Vivaldi settings), and I have the New Tab settings as you showed them, but my new tabs (Ctrl-T) don't get placed at the end of all tabs; they get placed after the tab group that contains the current tab.
It also seems that it doesn't make a difference whether I set it to "always last" or "always first" in the extension settings. Am I missing something?

Something changed that now it not works.
If you bookmark the Start Page the URL now is :
I try with this new URL but not works.

@gerhard234 This configuration works:
Make a blank (dark if you want) page in your hard disk:
file:///C:/Instalacion/2VIVALDI/Page.htm
This Vivaldi settings:
And this setting in the extension:
Links with "Open link in new tab" opens to the right of current tab and Page.htm opens at last with CTRL+t:
