Bookmark panel line spacing
-
This is reposted to this forum at the request of @leutage.
I would like to reduce the line spacing between bookmarks in the bookmark panel. I followed the code and suggestion to create a custom.css file posted by pafflick here
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/15039/modify-the-bookmark-panel-ui-i-lost-something
and have linked to it by editing the browser.html file.
It works as far as the reducing the line spacing. However (as pafflick noted a year ago), when you scroll down the bookmarks start to "flicker" on the screen and the panel becomes rather unusable.
Can anyone suggest a solution ?

@justinteim Haven't looked into it. I'm applying a different solution to the same problem, which works quite well. I have no idea where I posted this originally, couldn't find it, but I'm using it at the moment.
.panel header { padding-top: 9px; } .panel header h1 { margin-bottom: 5px; } .panel.panel-bookmarks header:hover > .toolbar.icons, #notes-panel.panel header:hover > .toolbar.icons { max-height: 68px; margin-bottom: 0px; opacity: 1; } .panel.panel-bookmarks header:hover h1, #notes-panel.panel header:hover > h1 { color: #fd3563; } .panel.panel-bookmarks .toolbar.icons, #notes-panel.panel .toolbar.icons { max-height: 0px; margin-bottom: -6px; opacity: 0; transition: max-height 0.5s ease-out, margin 0.5s ease-out, opacity 0.5s ease-out; }
This hides the panel header search and buttons by default and exposes them when you hover the title. Gives a bit more space which is useful. You can apply this to all panels.

@luetage, Thank you for your reply, but it is not a solution to either of the two problems. Please let me try to be more specific:
-
The line spacing in the bookmark panel is too wide, as others have found, and your script does not reduce it. (The added space gained from hiding the search bar is minimal.)
-
The script from your fellow mod @pafflick does work, but as he mentioned over a year ago, the bookmark sidebar begins to flicker if you scroll down. When this happens, the bookmark panel does not work at all (you cannot open a bookmark or a bookmark folder), and you have to close the panel and re-open it.
The problem is not solved, unfortunately.

@justinteim I never said the problem is fixed and I understood you very well. I just pointed you to an alternative, if this alternative doesn't satisfy your needs, you will have to wait for someone to fix the old code, or you will have to try to fix it yourself.
Or you just make a feature request and hope to get lucky ^^

Does this CSS to hide the Bookmarks search and buttons until hover still work. I had it working before, but for whatever reason it's not working on the latest update of Vivaldi (2.4.1488.38).
Thanks! -
Here is my CSS hack, it simply merged title into the searchbox & hide the title when you access the searchbox:
/* compact panel header */ .panel:not(.webpanel) > header {height:41px} .panel:not(.webpanel) > header h1 {position:relative; z-index:1; margin: 0 0 -1.6rem 2.8rem; font-size:inherit; opacity:.6; pointer-events:none;} .panel > header input:not([value='']) {z-index:1;}
You might need to tweak the
height
&margin
to fit your custom GUI. -
