How to set spell checker to German (Switzerland)
p-g last edited by Pesala
I could not figure out how to set the spell checking language to "German (Switzerland)" instead of "German".
Because word are spell differently and the Swiss German keyboard does not include all characters for German, this distinction is important.
So how do I set the language to "German (Switzerland)"? I have found the appropriate settings but "German (Switzerland)" is disabled; see screen shot.
Strange i added Deutsch (Schweiz) as Sprache but could not activate Rechtschreibung Deutsch (Schweiz).
I will check ifOh, Chrome has the same problem. :(
Must be a Chromium issue or Google does not provide a extra spellcheck dictionary for DE-CH.
Yes, no extra dict for de-ch ; see https://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome/trunk/deps/third_party/hunspell_dictionaries/
Open bug in Chromium (Vivaldi inherited this :( ): https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=708466
And Do-it-yourself of dict is not easy :( https://medium.com/@mwichary/fixing-a-chrome-dictionary-issue-bbd7c5314f01

You can use https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/languagetool/oldceeleldhonbafppcapldpdifcinji as a workaround.
This is known since 2009: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=18225
If you have the convert_dict utility "convert_dict.exe de_CH" should do it. Then replace C:\Users\xyz\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\de-DE-3-0.bdic with your converted file.
@fsproede Chromium uses a own format for the dictionaries.
Under normal circumstances i would fetch the dict for Libreoffice de_CH, extract the .dic and .aff file, combine them to a chromium .bdic and copy to Application\Dictionaries.
But I did not find the convert_dict.exe, that was the problem.
