Vivaldi GUI not coming up

  • Hi, I updated my system - Ubuntu 16.04.3 (as I usually do). It pulls in the latest stable vivaldi, however vivaldi is no longer launching a gui (the processes are there using about 8.5% CPu) . I tried to --reinstall the package and same issue. When I start it from the CLI, I get these:

    └─[$]> vivaldi-stable
    ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.
    [19828:19828:0219/103614.237544:ERROR:desktop_window_tree_host_x11.cc(1905)] Not implemented reached in void views::DesktopWindowTreeHostX11::MapWindow(ui::WindowShowState)

    vivaldi-stable (1.14.1077.50-1) ...

    Please advise.

    I will check it on my Ubuntu 16 Unity LTS.
    I git a compiz update. But it works for me.

    What happens if you start with a test profile?
    vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/VTEMP/"

  • @gwen-dragon said in Vivaldi GUI not coming up:

    vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/VTEMP/"

    That does make the GUI come up.

    So can that help to fix my default profile?

    ****** GUI Comes Up ********
    └─[$]> vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/VTEMP/"
    ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.

    ****** GUI Does NOT Come Up ********
    └─[$]> /usr/bin/vivaldi
    ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment.

    @2devnull said in Vivaldi GUI not coming up:

    find .config/vivaldi -name "Last *" -delete
    find .config/vivaldi -name "Current *" -delete
    vivaldi

    If that fails the hard way of resetting the profile (loss of extensions and some settings!):

    cp ~/.config/vivaldi/Default/Login\ Data ~ \
      && cp ~/.config/vivaldi/Default/Bookmarks ~ \
      && cp ~/.config/vivaldi/Default/Notes ~ \
      && cp ~/.config/vivaldi/Default/Calendar ~ \
     && cp ~/.config/vivaldi/Default/History  ~ \
      && rm -fr ~/.config/vivaldi/
    vivaldi
    # should rebuild profile

  • Thank you! The first option worked. I appreciate it.
