A particular guilty pleasure of mine are those old sci-fi & horror movies from the 30's to the 60's that are so gobsmackingly cringingly awful that they're fabulous. Here's my current crop... & indeed they're simply superb in their Coefficients of Craptitude.

@TbGbe No i didn't, i've seen that already [ditto Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, The Blob, The Thing et al] -- all wonderful specimens of the genre of course, but irrelevant to my post. The list above is my current list of stuff i found within the past couple of days, & which i am working my way thru watching.

After my post i finished the first one. OMZ, so bad, so very very bad. 🎉

I recently watched Infinity Train - It's a cartoon† about a hitchhikers-guide-esque bipolar robot, a talking corgi, and the main character is a girl programmer trying to find her way. It thoroughly dashed my expectations.

† Not a "kids cartoon", as evidenced by the fact the network cancelled it for contain themes that were "too mature" 😠

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - This is the first comic book film I've watched that has actually felt like a comic book while watching it. Really good animation.

By the Sea & The Picnic 1922

The Two Ronnies are usually worth watching. I don't think I have seen the entire film before.

This one is 1:20 mins in total. I think I have seen only clips before.

The beach scenes are from Shell Bay, which was my favourite local beach.

It's a real hoot. Bureaucracy & gov't officialdom intensively disliking inconvenient data & history that paints a reality different to what they'd prefer, & so they energetically debunk, distract & ridicule.

Such silly fiction! Who in their right mind could ever believe that any such thing could happen in reality?

                                      Pygmalion

This movie from 1938 is exceptional.

It received an Academy Award for the writing by George Bernard Shaw. One has to make some allowances for the acting.

George Bernard Shaw, Cecil Lewis, Ian Dalrymple, and W.P. Lipscomb[4] won the 1938 Academy Award for Writing (Adapted Screenplay). The film also received nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor (Howard) and Best Actress (Hiller). Shaw's reaction to his award was: "It's an insult for them to offer me any honour, as if they had never heard of me before – and it's very likely they never have. They might as well send some honour to George for being King of England [sic]." However, his friend Mary Pickford later reported seeing the award on display in his home. (Wikipedia entry)

Afaik i've only ever seen this [Citizen Kane] once, a loooong time ago, very late on tv one night. Having today read an interesting article about it linked in Hacker News [https://www.vulture.com/2020/12/why-is-citizen-kane-the-great-movie-ever-made.html], i decided to see if i could track it down, & found it on DTube, which atm i'm streaming. One nice/funny/quirky detail i'd not known/remembered, is that around the 24' mark one of the characters consistently, deliberately, breaks the Fourth Wall [visually]. I presume this is just my own ignorance, but it's surprised me a lot, because til now i'd assumed this was a much more modern technique. Maybe this "radical" idea given CK's time, was yet another hallmark of Welles' fresh innovative genius?
