A fix for excessive CPU – Vivaldi browser Snapshot 1.15.1099.3
-
Not complaining, just asking...
- Launch V-SS [ie, std windows opens, with my previous session loaded].
- Launch new Private Window [chortle]
- Do my ...whatever... in said PW [more chortles].
- Close PW.
- Sadly, both windows close, & all V processes end.
This bug has existed for "quite a while" [but my memory is too lousy to put an actual time on it], & in the past several other users have posted of it in the forum. I don't think i've seen anyone mention it recently [or again, i've forgotten], but it still occurs in 1.15.1099.3 [Linux, at least]. Is this still an active bug in the bug-tracker? [ie, just wanted to ensure that the Devs don't think it's solved despite (maybe) nobody mentioning it still].

[Regression] Some pages never stop loading when webRequest extensions are installed (VB-37486)
Such as uBlock Origin Extra, Nano Defender/uBlock Defender, etc?
-
@zandathrax: What OS are you on?
-
Finally after so long address bar drop down is fixed!

Aargg...pages don't finish loading, yes it's now a "known" issue but I was hoping for a fix today. Vivaldi snapshot is unusable at this moment.
I think it was already a known problem because it was reported a few times here in the forum, I do not know if I understood correctly, if you said it is unusable at that time for that reason, I do not understand!
For me this is not such a big problem (it only bothers me the fact that I finished loading the page and did not disappear the loading bar in the address bar), I had no problems with sites not showing the entire content because the page was not fully charged. -

Windows not maximized correctly exists in this build still exists.
It's been a while since Vivaldi has this problem, it's known, a matter of time to be corrected, Vivaldi does not start maximized.

@mtaki14
Windows 10 64 bits latest version (fresh install)but I'm not the only one with this problem ... (with prime video)

The problem with tabs not loading (VB-37387) is still present but the first tab that I have does now load half way and then it stops for ~20 min until that and my other 16 tabs load.
-
Seems to work! Had no more crashes after I installed this yesterday.
-
@escorpiom For me it helps a little bit to hit the stop button, to prevent the site from further loading. At least this works for me in Google Spreadsheets where I run into this issue.
-
@edgein as seen on screen shot the page is half and also the cloud sync cloud icon it not shown.
-
@pesala: yes, changing user default was not a good idea to begin with, insisting to save that forced change on every update is even worse. We get it Vivaldi SA. has some profit sharing with search engines, but please don't do this guys..
-
@whizzwr I think you missed the point. This is not about which search engine is the default for a new installation. This is just a usability issue about how hard it is to change the default and private window search engines.

Well, to me (I'd wager some number of users) it is the point. I prefer to search with Google in my private browsing, and then bam, a feature update and Vivaldi defaults to DDG in private mode. I changed it to Google, and then on the next update it went back to DDG. Overriding my pre-set preferences.
Probably not the intention of the devs and it's purely usability issue, but the effects are the same to end user.
To quote you:
It just seems obvious to me that if no search engine is selected for private windows that the default search engine will be used.

Tried to print an email in Yahoo email webpage - set popup to allow - a second blank window opened, but did not show email to print - tried again in Firefox - print window appeared - was able to print.
Tried above with and without any addons.
Using Vivaldi browser Snapshot 1.15.1099.3 - Windows Pro 10 .

I installed to test out Vivaldi 1.15.1099.3 and its amazing compared with 1.14. I work with a lot of tabs and all that lag and shuttering is now gone. I had not run into any problems described here yet. I will continue using this snapshot and hopefully we will see CPU and Memory leak fixes in official Vivaldi soon.
-
there is an annoying bug on snapshot 1.15. I know for sure the cause of this problem is from any kind of adblock extension (uBlcok, ADB, etc), which makes some websites doesn't load properly.
I'm not the only who have this problem. this man has it too. -
The memory leak is still there. By looking at task manager at this very moment I observe 2.900 Mb of memory, consumed by Vivaldi! How many tabs I have opened? One! Only the start page and the Vivaldi team blog are open!

@luetage Not sure if it's just Chrome's developers... But whoever it was, can NOT do math! You are absolutely right, version one and nine tenths ( .9) is less than one and fifteen hundredths ( .15) !
Now if they used something like a dash, to make it obvious it is NOT decimal notation IE: Version 1 subversion 9 : Version 1 subversion 15, the numbering would be correct. I guess developers just want to mess everything up though, like making the year 2000 AD equate to 1900 AD instead of just using two extra digits..... and yes, I'm one of those who stocked extra food and water and survival gear in case the problem was not resolved in time... -
I wanted to check today if there is an update to my GPU on nvidia, and I simply cannot check the model. The drop down boxes do not open. http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
Is anybody else having this oddity?
