Request: active-tab color of an inactive Vivaldi window
-
HI there, I'm not sure if this is Mac-specific, but . . . I think it would be nice if the color of the active tab would be different from that of the inactive tabs on an inactive Vivaldi window. This actually happens to me daily: The Vivaldi window becomes inactive because I move the focus to another application, and after a while, I come back to Vivaldi and start to read, say, the piece of news displayed on Vivaldi without clicking on the Vivaldi window, and wonder which tab this news belongs to. I know the title of the webpage is also displayed in the window titlebar, but it doesn't have the favicon of the page, and also I always place my tabs on the left (my main browsers are Vivaldi and Firefox now) and have developed the habit of looking at the tab title. The window titlebar is "too far" to me. Regards, Ryo

Perhaps it is Mac-specific: On my Win7 32-bit Vivaldi installation, the active tab goes from colored to gray when Vivaldi loses focus, and all other tabs are white whether Vivaldi has focus or not.

Indeed.
In windows the active tab, if Vivaldi is not focused, is gray.

You may try using Transparent Tabs option in preferences, this will make the inactive tabs have no (white) background. But I don't know if this option has any effect on Mac.

Oops! You are right! Your description made me realize that! What you describe applies to Mac, too.
That means, I have to alter my request. I'd like the color of active tab on the inactive Vivaldi window to be more conspicuous. Honestly, I wasn't able to tell which tab was active. And even now, after learning the difference between active and inactive tab colors, it takes some scanning before I'm able to focus on the active tab.
Anyway, thank you for correcting me.

Hmmm… Seems pretty obvious on my Win7 32-bit Vivaldi. Here are a couple of screenshots to compare with what you're seeing:

I still believe that the reversed colorization scheme would be a nice option.
I prepared a mockup with 4 variations of the same idea.

2 similar topics. One in "all platforms", second one in "windows only"
anyway. opacity 100% for active tab, opacity 50% (or so) for inactive tabs. All is coloured, all is clear (speaking about what tab is used or so…) and nothing is killing my eyes

Aha! Now I know the reason. Place your tabs on the left hand side. Then, not only the tab tittlebar, but also a page thumbnail, is displayed. See my screenshot below.
In this arrangement, when the page contents includes dark-colored areas, the thumbnail becomes gray when unfocused. That makes it harder to distinguish the tab titles from the thumbnails. (When the Vivaldi window is active, the active tab is colored and easy to distinguish.)

Thanks, but as you suspected, it doesn't seem to have any effect on my Mac. I'll test it when it becomes available.

But from what I see in your screenshot they are "transparent", they do not have a white background any more.
