New Vivaldi snapshot build. The second this week!
-
A release coming out mid-week shows me how dedicated Jon and the development team are. They are doing everything they can to give us a top level and quality browser. Most apps I am familiar with would have just glossed over the problems and waited until the regular release day.
Thanks Vivaldi!

Euhhh…
If it says "more mouse gestures" then why are ALL mouse gestures still not working for me in this build? (And the CTRL-BACKSPACE bug still goes back in history instead of moving the cursor past words in a text box - happened twice while editing this reply!)
Did something in my profile get borked by the last build? Do I need to do a clean install?

Confirmed, was about to post the same finding. Gestures aren't working at all with this build over here.

So far the only thing stopping me from using Vivaldi full time is the lack of a night rendering mode, like from extensions in Chrome or native in Maxthon.

Mouse gestures have been borked for a number of people, until they have done a fresh clean install.
Ugh.

Indeed, deleting the old profile did the trick. Thanks.

I deleted the profile but I still don't have the right+left mouse button shortcut for going back…

Works for me, and backspace works too.

This may seem like an odd question, but I absolutely do not like mouse gestures; and up until now, all my Vivaldi version installs have been totally free of any sign of them… which, for me, has been a good thing. Is there a setting to disable/enable mouse gestures, and if so, where? My concern is that they'll "come to life" somewhere along the trail of Vivaldi versions ahead, and I won't know how to shut them back off. Over the years, I've learned to mostly use the keyboard for controls, and simply use the mouse for point-and-click... and I really don't want some unintentional mouse-hand movements triggering functionality. To date, I've not discovered any controls for enabling/disabling mouse gestures in my settings panel nor in flags.

I still use Opera 12 but I first tried a new Opera (28) week ago - I was shocked.
Now I am trying a Vivaldi and I thing this is an interesting project. Of course, the browser has some bugs which are uncomfortable, but it is understandable and they can be fixed. But the main reason why I can't use the Vivaldi is big load for processor (it is problem of Opera 28, too). So I must stay on Opera 12, but I will watch your development and I wish you many successes. -

Beats me. I tried mouse gestures over a decade ago and could not get used to them, and so disable them in Opera. I disable them in any browser I use that has them. Can't see any place in Vivaldi yet, where they give us this option. I imagine it will show up, though.

Woho! New tab mouse gesture!

@Vovour could you show us the windows task manager showing processes in Op 12 and in vivaldi posting the 2 screenshots in a comparative vision
task manager is called by Ctrl+Shift+Esc or selecting it from task bar right button:
-
I have the "old-school" Menu bar with File, Edit, View, etc and noticed that the drop-down menus render under tabs so the first one or two items are blocked by the tab itself.
For the favicons-only bookmarks bar, you could always rename the shortcut and delete the name. At least that's how I did it initially.
-
@ jazei Yes, I can. In Vivaldi there is more processes (maybe each tab has own process - I don´t know) and each proces consumes "many" of CPU performance in some time (opening web page). Opera 12 has only one proces and its consumption is less then total consumption of all Vivaldi processes. In red boxes there are the typical CPU performances in similar tasks (no other application is running). In spite of the Vivaldi consumption is higher it is a bit slower then Opera 12.

Because it's based on Blink, Vivaldi, like all Chgromium-based browsers, has about three processes just to run, plus a process for every tab. It's in a VERY raw and rudimentary state right now, but one of the things the developers will be working on hammer and tongs, as soon as basic functionality is complete, is speed and resource optimization.
