Nimbus Screenshot and Screen Video Recorder, I have found does an excellent job in describing what an extension can do that solves this. However, the Save to Google option doesn't work properly, probably because it requires a built in Google account, which is baked into Chrome but not Chromium.

I guess it would be up to Nimbus to take that option away for non-Chrome browser extensions (Vivaldi, current Opera, and others).

Have you recorded anything with it? I tried and I couldn't do it.

It would be sufficient for me if text remained selected or context menu displayed when making a screenshot with Capture Tool.

I agree with Pesala on this. The function is ok for simple screenshots, but there are gazillion Chrome extensions you can use that are more advanced if you need more detailed editing.

The feature is not supposed to be an image editor. Also, with most operating systems, there is already a snippet tool included that allows for more functionality. You will be better using an extension if you are doing web captures all the time or if you prefer them offline have Vivaldi save the screenshots to a folder of your choice and then use your external preferred editor that has all the whistles and bells in terms of functionality.

That Vivaldi has a function for screen capture is fine, but personally I'm not interested in capture tools attached to the browser, I prefer desktop applications, such as ShareX or FastStone, which work independently of the browser and are much more complete than any function or extension that can be in the Chrome Store

@ozoratsubasa I have in earlier versions of Vivaldi. It has worked, but I don't have a program that can natively do .webm format {not yet paid for current version of Corel VideoStudio X10 or Premiere Elements). Since you mentioned it, I will try it again soon.

I guess this is the feature I want the most in Vivaldi. Currently, I'm often using Windows's Snip & Sketch to instantly highlight a part of the image, especially since it has a keyboard shortcut Windows + Shift + S.

      The very useful function.

In fact, a screenshot feature is useless without the ability to annotate, because you cannot specify what exactly you want to pay attention to.

Please add the following tools to the screenshot feature: an arrow, a rectangle, a pen, a text, etc.

The Lightshot free software is a good example to follow.

Ability to annotate screenshots with on-screen pens and highlighters before saving. For example something like paint app. If you select area, than you can make arrows, circles, squares, custom text, bubbles, highlighter, color picker, blurring........etc.

๐Ÿ‘ŒFor this I can recommend Greenshot, with this screenshot tool you can label screenshots, paint etc. And Greenshot is open source.

I use ShareX, also is FOSS with edit tools, OCR, screencast in gif and mp4, among others, and it upload to corresponding host for share the captures. It's one of the best, the lack is , it's only for Windows.

there is already a screenshot mechanism, with the insertion of a PNG image directly from the clipboard. It already works, without editing. Already half the work is done. But a naked picture is often useless.
Of course, for a programmer to set the task of "a graphic editor" is a difficult task.
For sure, there are open codes of simple editors. In fact, only 2 functions are needed: text and line (squares and circles are near). may be a choice of colors, or red (default). That's it, no more. A lot of work.

Of course, there are a million external apps, no need to offer ShareX. Everyone can handle it on their own, if it's slow and hard. Text and lines are needed in Vivaldi.

I think that we have two (or more) needs here.

One, where we need to capture a simple (part of a) page, like in homeoffice where we need to get a (part of) page to put in a chat or share in a email, etc.

Other is to capture for a presentation or other, where we can use a graphical software to a sofistiqued edition.

The point where @kaiyo presented his PoV is aligned with first need. Is the same point that me. Here, by example, I can use the capture tool and put and paste in this chat.

      faeadeec-9bc3-4574-8800-80eeb742a8ed-image.png

But, when I try to explain some thing for a colleage and I wait to explicit a part of image, I need to use lightshot extension, that give me this options:

      7788af1f-2d24-42db-bcce-065f9cb4336d-image.png

So, I can mark the "Send" button, by example.

      bab67a98-0d45-44f7-9aeb-8c7b22911268-image.png

I don't wait to edit the image, only give a highlight over some part. Very simple!

@filhocf , it would be certainly indicated that the capture allows to highlight some part and have some basic things, like adding text or arrows.
What to highlight a phrase or paragraph if it can be done, simply select this part and make the capture later with the highlight part.

Yes, @Catweazle, is a good point for text.

Others elements like buttons or images, or yet two or more text parts are not.

@filhocf , of course, it's just a workaround, until this is implemented. With Vivaldi's small team you have to have some patience with these things.
Personally, I prefer to use a desktop tool, ShareX, which makes me a better service (only for Windows). Another good alternative, somewhat simpler, would be Flameshot, Windows, Mac and Linux. They are both OpenSource. With these you can make these editions and they also give you directly a link to share the result (by default Imgur)

Sure! I participate in many open source projects and I know how is this situation.

Including, IMHO the unique feature that could put Vivaldi a the best is to be open source. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I want to help vivaldi to grow, but as closed product, I can't help as volunteer. Including the translation, where I found some points (for brazilian portuguese - pt-BR) that could be better.

Anyway, congrats by your great work!

Well, as a translator you can definitely help: https://vivaldi.com/blog/translating-vivaldi/
I should know, as I'm helping translating to European Portuguese ๐Ÿ™‚

@filhocf , only 5% of the Vivaldi script, corresponding to the UI, is proprietary, but full auditable and even moddable by the user. Vivaldi is not closed source in the traditional sense like Chrome or Edge.
