High-DPI Favicons in the Panel Bar
-
@pesala It is. I've verified it by using other browsers, and the favicons are not blurry most of the time.
-
@pesala I've added screenshots to show this.
-
People should really fix this! It feels terrible to look at these blurry favicons in the tab bar
-
This is an actual bug - and a regression to be honest. I believe Vivaldi 1.11 it used to work, it's been a long time since the high-DPI favicons era.
I opened an issue about it: VB-33047
The date? September 22nd 2017 -
If you add a site as a sidebar panel, it shows a clear icon. The bookmarks bar also shows a clear icon. The browser can do it, but it's not pulling the retina ones on tabs.
-
@pesala not really, many icon are SVG
-
This is planned but not started. I agree it would be a good enhancement.
-
@helmers I've come to realize that the higher resolution favicons are already used in almost every other aspect of the browser. From the bookmark panel, the bookmark menu, most web panels, the bookmark bar, and even hibernated tabs! It is only the active tabs that do not use the higher resolution favicons. Why is that?

This issue has been fixed with the latest Snapshot!

UPDATE
So I finally got a chance to try the snapshots, and I'm happy to say that the favicons are no longer blurry mostly everywhere. The only exceptions to this are web panel favicons, which are still blurry and do not appear to use the higher resolution favicon like tabs, as well as some Vivaldi urls, such as vivaldi://extensions or vivaldi://downloadsUPDATE 2
After a more thorough look, I realised that hibernated tabs no longer show a higher res favicon, which they currently do on the stable version.UPDATE 3
Closed tabs in the windows panel appear blurry after restarting the browser, but they do not appear blurry when viewed from the trash can icon on the top right. -
This feature is now fully implemented.EDIT: Because of a mod that I installed, I did not realize that web panel favicons were missing, so there is still one part missing.
-
Would you be willing to share the mod you used in the screenshot?
Thanks

@kittyjosh111 Sure, here is the guide I used: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/136572
-
@AltCode Thanks for your help!
-
As far as I can tell, Vivaldi already uses the higher-DPI favicons everywhere (when available).
This feature request is already done.
