Performance Enhancements for Creating New Tabs

  • Just look at what Opera 12.X, New Firefox or Chrome do...

In all these browsers the latency between user input (for tab creation) and getting a fully rendered tab is pretty low but in Vivaldi you feel (and sometimes see) the lag when creating a new tab.

    • One culprit is content (like High Quality Wallpapers) which seems to affect speed dial tab rendering heavily and if you disable wallpapers, creating a new Speed Dial tab feels a bit faster.
    • The other factor is just bad UI design: look at the new tab animation at the top bar, You can see that the new tab is made out of thin air (even when animations are turned on) which is in contrast to what Chrome or Firefox do: They animate the tab appearing from left to right which gives the UI time to load other stuff and has a nice smooth animation that gives the UI elegance...

a lot of these laggy behaviors can be hidden from user's view by thoughtful UI design...

On the other hand I'm not sure if you're using hardware rendering (GPU) for Vivaldi's UI (and not only webpages), but if not maybe you could look at investing in this option...
