Delete Saved Sessions Confirmation
-
Hi
I would recommend to add a confirmation before deleting Saved Sessions, For example:
Are sure you want to delete this session? (Yes/No) -
+1
It's too easy to delete sessions by mistake. -
@Gregor Yup... It's strange that this is not implemented...
Same with deleting attachments from notes and etc. -
I don't know how anyone manages to delete a session by accident. I certainly would not want it unless it could be disabled.
I think it should be easier to overwrite sessions List Existing Sessions on Save Session
A Sessions Panel would make management of sessions easier.
-
@Pesala Example:
- Have more than one saved sesson
- Try to delete one of them
- Have bad day (or just faulty mouse) and click "Delete" twice...
-
There is delete confirmation for deleting search engine in settings, but no confirmation when deleting session where you can have tens of tabs saved. It's absurd
-
I agree. I was shocked to see it's possible to delete an entire saved session with one click.
I see this was suggested three and a half years ago. Is there any chance this will be implemented?

I think that making deletion more difficult is the wrong approach. Backing up data should be made easier. For example, a Sessions Panel could make it easier to manage sessions, and export/import them to share them with other users or other computers.
Sessions are stored in a *.bin file in \User Data\Default\Sessions\
Currently, one can/should backup sessions manually. Making it easy from within the Vivaldi GUI would offer a way to recover deleted sessions.
I backup important data at least once a day, but neglect stuff like this that is harder to access, and not so important to me.
Bottom Line: If data is important to you, back it up.

Alternate take on this problem, simplify the 2 steps confirmation into 1 long press & hold to confirm method like in mobile:
Click & Hold UI behavior to replace all 2 Clicks Confirmation dialog -
@pesala Thank you. A Sessions Panel sounds like a great idea. It doesn't sound like it would address this issue however.
Even if one backs up all data once per day, that would not help at all if somebody accidentally deleted a session with, say, 100 important tabs that they just saved a session of, half an hour ago.
I don't understand the resistance to having a simple "Are you sure? Yes/No" dialog box. If you don't find it useful, it doesn't mean nobody else would. It could even have an "UGH, please don't ever ask me again!" checkbox, if desired.
Windows would do the same thing if you accidentally hit Delete on the wrong file. Mistakes happen. Then there's even the Recycle Bin in case you realise later that it was a mistake.
Come to think of it, Vivaldi even asks for confirmation (until you ask it not to), when you attempt to close a window, even if it just consists of a blank tab. For some reason though, it doesn't ask for confirmation for deleting an entire saved session.
Surely not every Vivaldi user is impervious to making mistakes. Maybe someone has a medical condition where their finger twitches on occasion, and they accidentally click twice, deleting two sessions instead of one.
But yeah, as you say, a way to easily recover deleted sessions via GUI would also be great to have, just in case an accident does happen.
@dude99 Sounds good! That would work too.

Well, this is an old thread, but the main reason why I stopped using the Saved Session function is the fact that there is no extra confirmation or whatsoever when deleting. I have deleted sessions by accident several times because of this.
As Vivaldi has a trash for bookmarks, speed dials and notes, has a history feature for (accidently) closed tabs and a confirmation button when closing a window, why isn't a confirmation button or trash feature implemented for 'Saved Sessions'? I really don't understand.

Tip: To make it harder to delete a session by accident, use double-click (or Enter on a selected session) to open it, instead of the Open button (which is next to the delete button).
One improvement has been made recently: the state of the checkbox to open sessions in a new window, or the current window, is now remembered.

The fact that the open and remove button are next to each other was in most cases indeed the reason I accidentally deleted a saved session...

Snapshot 5.8.2970.3 introduced Workspaces and a Sessions Panel, making it easy to update sessions.
There is no warning on delete, but one can restore a deleted session from the trash.
