Expand/Collapse tab stacks
-
Hey all! We just released Vivaldi 3.6 and there, with two-level Tab Stacks enabled (Settings > Tabs > Tab features > Tab Stacking) you can expand all tabs in a stack to a second level. The implementation is different from what has been discussed in this thread, but the principle is more or less the same.
You can read the release blog here. -

Two-level tab stacks is a nice addition, and something I'm already using (great work!).
However, it fails to capture a small part of Opera 12's expand/collapse feature that I miss greatly: You cannot view multiple tab stacks at the same time.
In Opera 12, I believe I could expand 2 different tab stacks and view all tabs in both of them at the same time, making it easy to jump back and forth between tabs of those stacks (correct me if I'm wrong; I haven't used Opera 12 for many, many years). This is unfortunately not (yet) possible with Vivaldi's two-level tab bar.Viewing the tabs in multiple stacks simultaneously would be amazing, since then I could group most of my tabs into different named groups at work (e.g. "Monitoring", "Gitlab", "Continuous Integration", "Research", etc.) and then expand only the groups I'd need at a particular time and view only those tabs.

I love the ability to expand/collapse tab stacks by double click! So cool:
(Classic Opera 12)

@Stardust I think everyone loves that. Patience will have to be exercised, I fear.

I guess not everybody know about double click

@awking Bump. Would like this feature as illustrated in the initial post.
This feature is also now present on Chrome and Edge #tab-groups-collapse / #edge-tab-groups-collapseThis feature would be even better if integrated with a Scrollable TabStrip.

The recent introduction of 2 levels of tab stacking is AMAZING to me, but I feel like something is missing to get to the right stack quickly.
I think that it would be great to have a right click -> "Tab Stack Background Color" menu to switch from this kind of view:
To this one, so that at a glance you go to the point:
I'm supporting the option of coloring the backround of the tab stack label here if you think this will improve the user experience.

Adding it here rather than creating a new topic:
LOCK/PIN TAB STACK + PIN TAB WITHIN A TAB STACK
-
make it possible to lock/pin the tab stack container, so that it is preserved even when reduced to single (and even zero) tabs, so that it is possible to have for example TO-READ tab stack
-
make it possible to pin tabs within a tab stack
