Cannot connect to Facebook.

  • A couple of evenings ago this started happening when I try to connect to Facebook.
I have just done a complete reinstall of Vivaldi and running with no extensions installed.

This site can’t provide a secure connection uses an unsupported protocol.

    Unsupported protocol
The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite.

Anyone have any ideas what this is and how to sort it, please?

May be a issue of your PC:

    • Old Vivaldi
    • Old Windows version
    • Windows certificates not up-to-date
    • Desktop security tool breaking SSL or certificates

Facebook loads fine on my Windows 10 x64 v1709 Build 16299.192 with 1.13 Stable and 1.14 Snapshot.

  • Sorry should have posted my system software.
Vivaldi is up to date 1.13 Stable
Windows 10 is up to date
Not sure about Windows certificates, but if Windows is up to date the certificates should be too.
To recap I can connect to Facebook with Cliqz Browser.
I can't connect with Vivaldi, Firefox or Microsoft Edge.
Not sure about Opera, haven't tried yet.

@stickymick sounds like either an infection, or your security software messing with things.

I use Windwos 10 and on my PCs i can noccetc to facebook with all browsers. No SSL problems.

I guess you have antivirus/desktop firewall scanning the SSL connection on Port 443 an breaking the protocol and certificates.
Or a proxy or hardware firewall is breaking the SSL protocol.

  • Thanks for the replies everyone.
After a bit of digging around I found the problem, Ayespy gave me a clue actually.
Windows Update had enabled my Windows Firewall for some unknown reason, so I was getting conflicts with Bullguard's Firewall.

Desktop Firewall and Antivirus are the most programs creating trouble with certificates or SSL traffic.
