Error start with icon - Ubuntu 17.10.1
LinuxMan001 last edited by Gwen-Dragon
I installed Vivaldi 1.13.1008.40 (Stable channel) (64-Bit) and Vivaldi-Snaphot 1.14.1072.3 (Offizieller Build) snapshot (64-Bit) in my Ubuntu 17.10.1 64bit. After placing the icons in the side panel, Vivaldi-Snapshot do not start. If I start Vivaldi-Snapshot from the app-list, it will be executed and start.
After start of vivaldi-snapshot the black icon do not appear.
A right click on the black icon shows that there is no content. ("Unbekannt Unbekannt" Translation: unknown, unknown)
See if that helps: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/23116/visual-bug-ubuntu-17-10/12

I have the same problem as LinuxMan001 here. When I make the icon a favorite, close the browser and click on the now favorite icon on the left, nothing happens.
For me the link of lamarca does not work.
Am I alone with this?

I can confirm this error on 4.14.13-1 ARCH using gnome. At least for stable Vivaldi rather than the snapshot. Also, when right-clicking on the item on the favourites bar... It used to have two options "New window" and "new private window" but now they both say "unnamed" and do absolutely nothing
FirstSirius you are not alone.
The issue affects Gnome and Unity users - Bug VB-36741
Thanks victorvavan and lamarca!
So if we are patient, we will finally see this resolved :-).
By the way, is there a way to see the buglist?
@axelmklein no, is not public.
Ask a Soprano (someone from Vivaldi tester team), me is a member.
You are welcome. The Bug Tracker is private.

Both in vivaldi-stable and vivaldi-snapshot the x-desktop files have undefined "Actions" which seems to prevent the starting from a launcher icon in gnome-shell.
The previous window class issue with vivaldi-snapshot appears to be fixed though.
cp /usr/share/applications/vivaldi-snapshot.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/
Open with gedit
(replace vivaldi-snapshot with vivaldi-stable in above commands if stable launcher doesn't work)
Now you can either comment the "Actions=new-window;new-private-window;" line by placing a "#" at the beginning.
(won't have right click new-window or incognito options)
or don't comment and add the missing actions
[Desktop Action new-window] Name=New Window Exec=/usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot [Desktop Action new-private-window] Name=New Incognito Window Exec=/usr/bin/vivaldi-snapshot --incognito
If you want a black icon also change
Icon=/opt/vivaldi-snapshot/product_logo_48.pngor an icon of your choice.
I use this icon with inverted colour for dark panels.
Thank you! Commenting out works for me!

You guys were looking at this all wrong; it wasn't a bug but rather a feature. You were all being invited to join the cool kids' table and switch to a KDE Plasma DE so GNOME could enjoy its retirement in peace. ;)

...or join the adults table and eXit to xfce. :)

I use Ubuntu 17.10. The vivaldi browser does not start from the icon on the side, but starts well from a terminal, although with the next error:
[8704:8704:0202/233256.642504:ERROR:gpu_process_transport_factory.cc(1009)] Lost UI shared context.
[1:10:0202/233256.730436:ERROR:command_buffer_proxy_impl.cc(115)] ContextResult::kFatalFailure: Shared memory handle is not valid

Ubuntu 16.04 xenial 32 bit
The icon problem doesn't fixed :(
@summoner Works for me with 1.14.1077.45 and 1.15.1090.3 Ubuntu 16.04
I backupped the deb packages of Vivaldi 1.14 and 1.15, purged both installs with
apt purgeand reinstalled once more. Then i starte Vivaldi and pinned a Starter to the bar.
