Can't view passwords

  • For some reason, i wasn't able to log into Twitter so i went to check passwords.
Was not able to do so with either PIN or Outlook password used for Windows 10.
Is there another way i don't know about to do this?

Click the eye of the password
    Enter Windows account passord

  • That's exactly what i have tried to do.
As posted, have tried with Outlook email account p.w. (OS registered with) as well as PIN and neither of them allow me access to that 'eye'.
    Eye, yae yae yae!

You used the password you currently logged on you Windows as regular user?

  • In some of the latest Chromium enignes, there is that problem, passwords cannot be viewed.

I've tested on mine and it happens too.

Works for me on Windows 10 x64 (Fall Creator) on Vivaldi Stable 1.13.1008.40 & 1.14.1047.3 with PIN and local account password.

    @danielson Which Vivaldi version?

Have tried before on another occasion but went back to Firefox to find the p.w. i needed. So, decided this time to go back to Vivaldi and still a no go. Double checked, triple checked (email or PIN).

"you better not pout, you better not cry..."

  • Vivaldi won't accept my Windows 10 login either. It started after the last big WinX update.

On my Windows PCs all viewing of password work fine.

Then your last Windows 10 update broke your system.

    Try a Windows repair:

    • Win+R
      shutdown -g -t 0
    • After reboot open as Administrator cmd.exe:
      • Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
        and hit Enter
      • Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
        and hit Enter
      • Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
        and hit Enter
      • Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
        and hit Enter
    • Type shutdown -g -t 0
      and hit Enter

If that does not help you may need a fresh install of your Windows.

  • Did those things and still no go.

@danielson Sounds like a corrupted Login Data file or a corrupted profile.

  • Opera 49 has reported this, though I never had an issue myself. The techs claim it is an issue in Chromium itself - which means Vivaldi should have the same issue whenever they encounter the problematic Chromium version. I'll have to look at the Chromium versions when I'm on my PC, but... well, as I said I never had that issue myself, but we still get multiple reports every day.

  • @sgunhouse Opera 49 says:
    Browser identification
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.94 Safari/537.36 OPR/49.0.2725.64

    Vivaldi (latest internal snapshot) says:
    User Agent
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.97 Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/1.95.1049.1

So Vivaldi snapshot should have this problem. ๐Ÿ˜ž

@sgunhouse Hm. I can't reproduce the problem here on Win10. It asks for my Win password, I give it, I get to see the password in Vivaldi.

  • Same problem. Can't view it - wrong password for Microsoft account, which i logged in. I also tried to additionally log-in Microsoft/Outllook site - no problem there.

Need my password - I don't want to go through reset procedure.

    Vivaldi 1.14.1047.3, Windows 8.1 x64

  • I never understood why so many others had issues with it and not me, but it is a real issue with Chromium 62.

  • Maybe try a third-party tool, like

Alternatively, if Vivaldi fills in the password field on the login page, you could use a JavaScript bookmarklet to reveal it, e.g.

    javascript:(function(){var oOut,frameSearch=function (oFrame) {if(!oFrame){oFrame=window;}for(var oPass='',i=0,j=oFrame.document.forms;j[i];i++){for(var x=0,y;y=j[i].elements[x];x++){if(y.type=='password'&&y.value){oPass+=y.value/*+"\t"*/;}}}for(var i=0;oFrame.frames[i];i++){try{oPass+=frameSearch(oFrame.frames[i]);}catch(e){}}return oPass;};void(oOut=frameSearch());if(oOut){prompt('The following passwords were found:',oOut);}else{alert('There are no passwords in forms on this page.');}})()

LE: A third option has just occurred to me: go to the login page, open the Developer Tools (F12) to their Network tab (have Preserve log and Disable cache ticked, to make sure that you can see all the traffic), then submit the login form; the request (usually a POST of type document) will be logged in the Network messages list, and clicking on it will show the password in plain-text in its Headers > Form Data.

PS: vivaldi://settings/passwords works as expected here with the latest 64-bit stable-channel Vivaldi on Windows 10.

Do you know a bug number at Chromium bugtracker?

  • I've killed latest vivaldi and installed something like 1.12. ... Field for MS account looks little different and it works this time, so I saw what I want, but it is temporary solution. Something broken in new chromium for real ๐Ÿ™‚

It is not advised to go back from a higher version profile to a lower, that may break login data.
I remember while testing versions in the past that a downgrade broke my login passwords.
