Can't view passwords
-
For some reason, i wasn't able to log into Twitter so i went to check passwords.
Was not able to do so with either PIN or Outlook password used for Windows 10.
Is there another way i don't know about to do this? -
That's exactly what i have tried to do.
As posted, have tried with Outlook email account p.w. (OS registered with) as well as PIN and neither of them allow me access to that 'eye'.
Eye, yae yae yae! -
In some of the latest Chromium enignes, there is that problem, passwords cannot be viewed.
I've tested on mine and it happens too.

@gwen-dragon said in Can't view passwords:
You used the password you currently logged on you Windows as regular user?
Yes.
Have tried before on another occasion but went back to Firefox to find the p.w. i needed. So, decided this time to go back to Vivaldi and still a no go. Double checked, triple checked (email or PIN)."you better not pout, you better not cry..."
-
Did those things and still no go.
-
@danielson Sounds like a corrupted Login Data file or a corrupted profile.
-
Opera 49 has reported this, though I never had an issue myself. The techs claim it is an issue in Chromium itself - which means Vivaldi should have the same issue whenever they encounter the problematic Chromium version. I'll have to look at the Chromium versions when I'm on my PC, but... well, as I said I never had that issue myself, but we still get multiple reports every day.

@sgunhouse Opera 49 says:
Browser identification
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/62.0.3202.94 Safari/537.36 OPR/49.0.2725.64Vivaldi (latest internal snapshot) says:

-
@sgunhouse Hm. I can't reproduce the problem here on Win10. It asks for my Win password, I give it, I get to see the password in Vivaldi.
-
Same problem. Can't view it - wrong password for Microsoft account, which i logged in. I also tried to additionally log-in Microsoft/Outllook site - no problem there.
Need my password - I don't want to go through reset procedure.

I never understood why so many others had issues with it and not me, but it is a real issue with Chromium 62.

Maybe try a third-party tool, like https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/chromepass.html
Alternatively, if Vivaldi fills in the password field on the login page, you could use a JavaScript bookmarklet to reveal it, e.g.
javascript:(function(){var oOut,frameSearch=function (oFrame) {if(!oFrame){oFrame=window;}for(var oPass='',i=0,j=oFrame.document.forms;j[i];i++){for(var x=0,y;y=j[i].elements[x];x++){if(y.type=='password'&&y.value){oPass+=y.value/*+"\t"*/;}}}for(var i=0;oFrame.frames[i];i++){try{oPass+=frameSearch(oFrame.frames[i]);}catch(e){}}return oPass;};void(oOut=frameSearch());if(oOut){prompt('The following passwords were found:',oOut);}else{alert('There are no passwords in forms on this page.');}})()
LE: A third option has just occurred to me: go to the login page, open the Developer Tools (
F12
) to theirNetwork
tab (havePreserve log
andDisable cache
ticked, to make sure that you can see all the traffic), then submit the login form; the request (usually aPOST
of typedocument
) will be logged in theNetwork
messages list, and clicking on it will show the password in plain-text in itsHeaders
>Form Data
.PS:
vivaldi://settings/passwords
works as expected here with the latest 64-bit stable-channel Vivaldi on Windows 10. -
I've killed latest vivaldi and installed something like 1.12. ... Field for MS account looks little different and it works this time, so I saw what I want, but it is temporary solution. Something broken in new chromium for real
-
@gwen-dragon Hard to search so many topics on Opera's forum on this, closest I get is this:
https://forums.opera.com/post/128334
Note that Opera just update to their version 50 and should no longer have the issue (newer Chromium).
-
@gwen-dragon Which login could brake? Microsoft? Or some of saved sites in Vivaldi?
-
Vivaldi is fine, just if you try to use the chrome:// url posted earlier to actually view your saved passwords (a feature not yet implemented in Vivaldi's UI) it may not work. Autofill is unaffected, and external password decryptors still work.
-
@gwen-dragon Thank you, it works on latest snapshot 1.14...
-
@gwen-dragon - works here too!
Took me a while to find the .exe (appdata/local instead of ProgramFiles).
But it works on latest snapshot!Thanks!
-
@gwen-dragon - interesting!
(wonder if p.w. issue is same with Linux?)
