Help ! -- Problem with bookmarks
-
Hi All,
I am elderly and suffer from macular degeneration. Today I was tidying my bookmarks in Vivaldi, using "Cut" and "Paste" to move complete folders (with multiple entries) into a new destination folder. Unfortunately, right at the end of the operation,, because of my impaired eyesight, I hit "delete" instead of "paste" whilst the focus was on the target folder. All the bookmarks have been deleted.
I have looked in "Bookmarks" and I can see that Trash contains one item (which I guess is the lost target folder and its contents). I cannot find any way to recover the target folder back out of Trash.
Can anyone advise me how to salvage this situation. I actually think a recovery toggle should be built in --- it;s very easy to hit the wrong selection in the context menu if (like me) one has poor stereo perception due to damaged sight.
I am keeping the system running and undisturbed but if we get a brown-out or power cut tonight, I'll lose everything.
System - Dell Optiplex with 8 GB memory and over 100 GB free disc space.
Linux Mint, Ver: 17.3 (64 bit)
Vivaldi - 1.13.1008.34 (Stable channel) (64-bit)Many thanks for reading my post --
Best regards to all -- -
If you check either the bookmarks panel or the bookmarks page (Menus --> Tools --> Bookmarks, or Ctrl+B). Then you will see the Trash icon there as well. From there you can drag it back out to where it used to be.

Hi
Thank you for your quick reply which describes what I expected to be able to do and which I tried before writing my post.I have Trash in view and it can be selected. Unfortunately, it does not drag.
Is there some trick here that I'm missing ?

That is odd, I assume that cutting and pasting from the Trash also doesn't work.
I cannot reproduce the problem, I just deleted a bookmark folder and dragged it right back into place from the Trash (1.13.1008.34, Ubuntu 17.10, 64bit).

I have Trash in view and it can be selected. Unfortunately, it does not drag. You need to open the Trash Folder, then you should see your deleted folder/bookmarks which can be dragged back into the Bookmarks.

Problem Solved !
In my stress, I forgot to double-click Trash to "Open" it
I officially promote myself to "Idiot-of-the -day"
Thank you very much for your reply --- once I got my brain in gear everything worked as it should.
Many thanks and Best regards to you.

Thank you Gwen for your kind and thoughtful post. Please don't take my remark about calling myself a idiot too seriously. I have a pretty good grip on reality. I have spent some considerable time creating custom logos for my bookmarks and then arranging these in folders and sub-folders. This afternoon's work was actually the final stage --- moving these "sorted folders" into one top-level folder. There are over 200 bookmarks in this "tree" and I had only two more items to move when I inadvertently hit "delete" instead of "paste". All that thought and work seemingly disappeared down the drain and | couldn't see the way to recover. I had actually had the same experience about a week ago but then it involved a few items. I couldn't find the recovery method then either, so I lost my bookmarks but then, it was just a few items so --- annoying but no big deal. This time though, it was a much bigger disaster, so I was panicking a bit !
However, all's well that ends well and I have learned a valuable lesson in working with Vivaldi.. I'm still very new with this browser but I like it very much and it is now my default --- Firefox has been deleted from my system and I have no plans to reinstate this.
I'm not sure that I have sufficient experience with Vivaldi to make useful comments along the lines you suggest. What I will do is give the matter some thought and come back to you in a day or so. Do you want my comments posted to the Forum or would you prefer a PM ? --- I'm happy either way.
Many thanks and best regards ---
