Can I get Vivaldi to open links to local files?

  • I use a wiki to store documents and it has links to local PDF files. These are regarded as a security risk and modern browsers disable these links by default. Is there a way to enable local file links?

    In Firefox you can re-enable local links by adding:-
    user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "localfilelinks");
    user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.sites", "domains go here")
    user_pref("capability.policy.localfilelinks.checkloaduri.enabled", "allAccess");

    Has Vivaldi got a user.js file or equivalent?

  • On Windows, I don't have any issue with this. I just set PDF files to open in Vivaldi via Settings, Webpages, Plugins, and bookmark a link like this:

    file:///O:/Documents/Websites/AIM/Assets/PDF/2018.pdf

  • Yes, well that's not very helpful if one isn't running Windows! :-)

    In my case it's actually rather easy to avoid file:/// links, I have a fairly customised apache2 installation and it's easy to put what were the file links into a directory accessible via http:// links so that's what I have done.
