Change Update Channel

  • Hi all.

I have been running Vivaldi Snapshots for some time now, but if I wanted to switch to the Release (stable) channel or vice versa, how do I do it?

  • @dypsis You can simple install the regular over the Snapshot version. Final 1.13 is due out soon., perhaps as soon as Monday?

What I recommend is to install the Final version normally, and install the Snapshot version as a Standalone version in its own folder. Then you continue testing while using the stable version as your default browser.

  • I never bothered to keep 2 versions of Vivaldi, I always install snapshots over stable and viceversa, I always run on latest builds. Never had a problem, never had to roll back to previous versions. πŸ™‚

  • OK. Thanks.

    So, there are no settings.
Just install one version over the other. πŸ†

I tried to install the regular version over the Snapshot, but I received a message that I had to uninstall the existing version first. If I use the Vivaldi uninstaller, will it retain my profile?

  • @Dypsis This thread is quite old now (we are on 2.4).

I'd go with a profile backup to be sure everything is ok.

Installing the "regular" (stable) over the snapshot is not recommended anymore, as it's actually "older", and downgrading vivaldi could cause strange issues.

If you want be even more cautious, you can keep both, install the new as standalone, and then remove the one you don't need.

  • Hi Hadden.

    Thanks for your reply.
I backed up my profile, which is the "Default" folder located at:
    C:\Users[Username]\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data
[The link you provided didn't provide the path. That's OK. :)]

I proceeded to uninstall Vivaldi Snapshot, and there was the box to tick if you wanted to delete user data, which I didn't do. Then I download and proceeded to install the latest regular version of Vivaldi, but I received and unspecified error message.

I re-booted and tried installing the regular version again, and everything is saved how I previously had it, except my gray icon has turned red. πŸ™‚
