  • 85% - 15% would have been nicer, but a win's a win. Happy important day.

  • @gwen-dragon Nice detective work GD. :-)

"A majority of people in every state and territory said Yes. The Yes vote was largely consistent, representing 60-65 per cent of the vote in all but two states and territories. In the ACT, nearly three quarters of the population said yes (74 per cent) while in NSW only 57.8 per cent was in favour of same-sex marriage.

More than three quarters of the Australia’s eligible voters took part"

    https://marriagesurvey.abs.gov.au/results/
"Of the eligible Australians who expressed a view on this question, the majority indicated that the law should be changed to allow same-sex couples to marry, with 7,817,247 (61.6%) responding Yes and 4,873,987 (38.4%) responding No. Nearly 8 out of 10 eligible Australians (79.5%) expressed their view.

All states and territories recorded a majority Yes response. 133 of the 150 Federal Electoral Divisions recorded a majority Yes response, and 17 of the 150 Federal Electoral Divisions recorded a majority No response."

  • Certainly a welcome change in the kind of news we've been getting lately. Well done Australia!

  • @Steffie: First one seems to be on its way!
I have family living over there (and, until last week, a friend as well), and they have mentioned a couple of things regarding the government (also, news) and other policies, so, yeah, not completely out of the loop. But one can hope, and not only for Australia, but for other countries out there as well!
