Vivaldi is not selecting prompt value

  • In Opera 12 (and in all other Windows browser I have tested just before writing this), the value of a JavaScript prompt is selected.
Not in Vivaldi, which makes me loose much time…

    1. Go to any page (not just a blank tab)
    2. Paste javascript:void(prompt("toto", "this should be selected")); in the address bar and press the Enter key

The default value text (this should be selected) should be selected but it is not.

@jesus2099 If you found a bug, please report the issue to the developers to fix it.

How to do a bugreport for Vivaldi
Report each bug separate at https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/
Describe the issue as precise as you can.
Add some information about extensions you use.
Add information about the operating system and version you use.
If you have problems with video or audio give us information about your installed codecs and graphics card/GPU.
Add a exact link to the page where the issue comes up and can be tested.
After reporting the issue, you will receive a confirmation mail from the bug tracker.
In a reply to this mail you can add more information and files (like screenshots or testcases) as attachments and it will be added automatically to bug report.
If you have questions about the bug please ask in forum first and do not forget to post the VB-XXXXX bug number (you can find it in confirmation mail).

Thanks in advance for helping us to make Vivaldi better!

Sorry for the question, but why should this text be selected? Is this something web browsers should do? (and why the second value?) Is this a feature of Vivaldi?

Or should this be more of a feature request? (Why...?)

    Testcase at: https://jsfiddle.net/2f9gbknq/

Already reported as VB-35483 "Javascript prompt input field has no selected content"

@jesus2099 I will close your report as duplicate.

Javascript prompts are used for getting input from users and a predefined content which could be easily overwritten is useful.

Is this something web browsers should do?

Yes all others like Opera 12, Opera next, Firefox, IE 11, Edge.

Is this a feature of Vivaldi? Or should this be more of a feature request? (Why...?)

Vivaldi has a bug and does not select the input as it should do for a prompt with predefined content.

Ah, so I misunderstood. Didn't understand why it should select anything on pasting in the address field...

Forget everything after... er... "sorry" 🙂
