The recent 1.13.x "open link in background via middle click" bug...

  • Before i do so, can anyone pls advise if they've already raised a Bug Report for this pesky recent SS bug, that requires multiple attempts before it works?

It's certainly not my mouse, as the operation remains fine in my other browsers, including also V Stable 1.12.955.48. I've only tested in Linux [still feeling too lazy to launch my yuck Win10 VM to test V SS therein].

  • Seems to work fine for me in Mageia 6.

  • @sgunhouse Interesting... Ta.

  • Same like @sgunhouse, mid-click work here.

    Linux/Debian sid amd64.
    Openbox WM
    Fluxbox WM
    XFWM/XFCE4

  • @dleon Every single time? 100% success rate.. 0% failure rate?

There are times that it works first time for me, in this 1.13 series, like it always used to do in the older series. But more often it fails on the 1st, or 1st & 2nd, or 1st 2nd & 3rd clicks. It's exasperating.

  • @steffie
That will need around 1 day to test in all my 3 WM.
    Let see tomorrow.

  • @steffie
    Nevermind tomorrow.
Was the bug about the page refresh after the middle click?

For mouse, I'm using libinput library instead of the common evdev or others.

    I still use archaic Xorg config because I'm using proprietary nVidia driver but reside in in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/nvidia.conf. These are parts of it for mouse input device;

    Section "InputDevice"
      Identifier "Mouse0"
      Driver "libinput"
      Option "Protocol" "auto"
      Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
    EndSection

Beside those, my mouse settings is for left handed. Set with command

    xmodmap -e "pointer = 3 2 1"

  • I can confirm this, although I am using Windows 7. At first I thought my mouse is broken, but then I read some posts from other users mentioning the same problem: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/21772/the-start-of-1-13-stablization-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1-13-998-3/87
But nobody mentioned he had filled a bug report.

  • @steffie said in The recent 1.13.x "open link in background via middle click" bug...:

This is needed? I think if it's already reported in Snapshot topic and confirmed by several users, devs will do something about it.

  • @asires yes, it is needed, better be sure the bug is filed even multiple times to indicate it's an annoyance for many. Writing a complaint on forum or blog (which is basically the same on different layout) doesn't make the devs aware of the bugs.

  • @ian-coog horrible bug reporting system: Devs don't see multiple bug reports in Snapshot topic, user don't see bug-tracker with multiple bug reports in it.

  • I have just lodged the bug report. I shall edit this post with the # once i get the email.

    EDIT:

[Jira] (VB-34254) 1.13.x "open link in background via middle click" bug.
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Issue Collector created VB-34254:
    ------------------------------------

Summary: 1.13.x "open link in background via middle click" bug.
    Key: VB-34254
    Project: Vivaldi Browser

1.13.x "open link in background via middle click" bug.

    Steps to reproduce:
On many websites, at random places & for random links, in Linux rpm & [apparently] also Windows builds of Vivaldi Snapshot in the last few snapshots in the 1.13 series, frequently [but not always] requires multiple attempts of mouse middle-click before it works, ie, before the link then opens a new background tab.

There are times that it works first time for me, in this 1.13 series, like it always used to do in the older series. But more often it fails on the 1st, or 1st & 2nd, or 1st 2nd & 3rd clicks. It's now unreliable & hence exasperating.

It's not my mouse at fault, as the operation remains fine in my other browsers, including also V Stable 1.12.955.48. I've only tested in Linux but several other users also have this bug, in Windows as well as Linux.

    See:
    https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/169882
    https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/169018
    https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/169881

    Address (URL) of faulty page:
    Random

    Expected behaviour:
Links should open in background at the initial middle click, every time, like older snapshots used to.

    Actual behaviour:
On the occasions when it behaves, normal middle-click tab-opens-in-background occurs.
On all the occasions it misbehaves, NOTHING at all happens when the link is middle-clicked. In these cases it can take another 1, 2, 3... attempts before it works.
