Tab opening and closing gets sluggish/laggy after a while - animation is enabled
After having a browsing session running for half an hour to an hour, tab closing and opening becomes sluggish and laggy. I'm on the latest version of Vivaldi. Tab UI animation is already clunky in Vivaldi and this extra lag after a while turns Vivaldi into a painful browsing experience.
How many tabs do you use?
@gwen-dragon roughly 10 tabs +/- 5.
@garyr not much.
Perhaps: graphic drivers, RAM exhausted, Extensions, third party security software?
Can you please check with Vivaldi's task manager (Shift+Esc) which tab wastes so much CPU/GPU/RAM?
Which Vivaldi version on which Windows version do you use?
I'm on a Windows 10 machine with a 4-core CPU at 3.7GHz, 8GB of RAM, and a Samsung SSD. Vivaldi's up to date. I have the same exact extensions (4 in total) installed in Opera and I get no UI lag whatsoever.
Edit: I think it's the last update that was pushed a couple of days ago that's triggered this issue.
Vivaldi's up to date.
That means which version? See vivaldi://about
I have the same exact extensions (4 in totdal)
How do you know that the extensions do not cause this? Did you check it by deactivating them step-by-step?
installed in Opera and I get no UI lag whatsoever.
Opera has not the same UI as Vivaldi so you cant compare them.
Please, as i suggested check for a longer period with Vivaldi's taskmanager which extension/tab consumes much power.
Then i could get a hint whats wrong.
Which graphics card/internal GPUs are on your system?
I disabled AdBlockPlus and Grammatically and the lag seems to have gone away (with animation enabled). Lag aside, TAB UI and scrolling on Vivaldi are still clunky and slow, compared to other browsers.

I just enabled smooth scrolling from the flags page and it does seem to have improved scrolling smoothness. I had smooth scrolling enabled in the settings menu and it didn't have that smoothing effect.
Going back to my original complaint, with animation enabled in settings, even after disabling all extensions, tab UI still gets laggy after opening and closing many tabs. Seems to be an issue related to data management, potentially.

@garyr the setting in the normal vivaldi setting never did anything to me, no changes whatsoever, lately someone mentioned this other in the chrome flags and it actually works for me, scrolling with mousewheel or sidebars is smoother.
@ian-coog Do you get sluggish tab closing/opening with animation enabled in settings if you open and then close many tabs?

@garyr Ah no, I don't leave animation setting enabled as it causes more troubles to me than bringing usefulness. It causes frame dropping on YT 60fps videos and as you noticed, it's not that good with tabs. I can live better without it, I even disabled all useless animations, bells and whistles from windows too.
