In page search (Ctrl + F) error
-
The problem described is appearing regularly on my work laptop (Win10, Dell E7470) to the extend that stopped open some sites in Vivaldi. Few hours ago freez happened just after search was started for the first time on my home desktop machine (Win7, Dell Optiplex 990). Searches were performed on completely different sites. There was no crash log. After the browser was restarted I tried to reproduce the problem on home machine, but attempt was unsuccessful.
What is common for both systems:
- Vivaldi 2.3.1440.41 (32-bit)
- large amount of open tabs (40-60 on avarage)
- browser session is restored every time vivaldi is started
- uBlock Origin extension in both environments

Didn't see this thread.
I had regular crashes (especially since v2)
I thought related to pdf viewer (but must be just a catalyst)
but seems in fact related to Ctrl+F
Got dozen of crashes this morning alone even with extensions disabled.
Opening pdf files and using YT seems to help to reproduce the bug.
Crash logs aren't always generated
But I sent the ones I had to bug report.NB: Experienced once 2x CPU cores (on 4) used at full use, but don't know if related to this (after 2.3 (original) install).

Yet another strange thing. It seems that problem appear also when search is made inside an app. It happen to me twice already. Once during searching of a edited wiki page when wiki search tool was used. Second time was during search of a text file inside bitbucket repository. This was quite surprising to me. Only thing that is common for all those search tools is probably highlighting and maybe auto-scroll to first result (not sure on this one).
Today I also noticed that vivaldi on some sites is searching and highlighting only search results that are displayed on the screen, but this is connected probably with some kind of caching made by browser or maybe how javascripts are displaying page content. This happens when searched pattern is at the top and and the bottom of the page because auto-scroll points at the first result. For some reason I connect this functionality with the error, but I could be completely wrong here.

I think this particular issue would be on the same site with any browser. It may be for websites that progressively loads page content only as you scroll.

It’s been a while since last time I reported a concrete example.
But as it randomly happens on any website…But let’s just report once in a while.
I’m on Windows 7 with Vivaldi 2.3.1440.41 (Stable channel) (64-bit).
I was on https://community.metabrainz.org/tags and wanted to inline findvot
so I pressedCtrl+F
then typedvot
but Vivaldi froze just after myv
.
As usual, no crash logs in"%userprofile%\appdata\local\vivaldi\user data\crashpad\reports"
for this. -
Same here. When I press CTRl+F in a page Vivaldi crash. Then after restart it works for a few minutes then is happen again.
This problem is also in the "View page source".
Here a drive folder with crash dump (actually in upload, maybe 10-20 minutes) -

Are you sure your crash dump is related to this Ctrl+F crash (check its time)?
Because not a single time, I had a crash log for this particular bug.
And usually I have to type at least the first letter of my searched term for crashing.—
VB-49357: In page search (Ctrl + F) crash on last match

Hello,
I have the same problem. It happens sometimes, not consistently. Using Ctrl+F Vivaldi suddenly closes. Sometimes I have time to type one or two letters.
It doesn't happen consistently though...
I have many tabs opened but I used to have many even before the last update and I have this issue only since the last update.
From the About page:
- Vivaldi : 2.3.1440.48 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
- Revision : 38c6381358a1ec7a9fc161a038fb9d7407334aa4-refs/branch-heads/3626@{#858}
- OS : Windows

Me too! Me too! This started a few days ago and was very unfrequent - like once or twice a day. So, infreuqnet in fact, that I didn't really realize what was going on.
But now it's happening every other time I use Ctrl-F. It's happening so infrequently that it really has rendered the browser unusable. I'll have to use something else until it gets fixed.
Real shame, I see this problem has been around for over a year now.
-
@jesus2099 the latest one yes, is related to the crash happened yesterday. For the others I'm not really sure, but the only crash I see is about CTRL+F
-
Vivaldi crashes whenever I do a ctrl + f and type in a couple of letters. If I paste it in it crashes after I've iterated through a couple of results. I removed google translate and for a while it worked but then it came back. Frustrating, very frustrating.
-
Same problem, Vivaldi 2.3.1440.48 (Stable channel) (64 bit). Tried to represent a bug on purpose, no luck. Mostly it happens when I've typed a few letters on random sites in searchbox from the google search results.
-
I'm getting this crash as well, 2.3.1440.48 on Ubuntu 18.10 x64.
The crash only seems to happen after the browser has been running for a while. Immediately after the crash, I can search on a page with no issues. The crash also only happens when I type the first letter in the search field, not when opening the search field itself. This is definitely a regression since the last stable version, I search on the page a lot during code reviews and this bug has made it difficult to do so without frustration.
-
I was on GitHub finding the main method and used the find command, but the command caused the Vivaldi browser to crash. In addition, doing the same command in the PDF reader also crashes the browser.
Edit: Some grammatical fixes.

There is a new stable version out that fixes this issue: https://vivaldi.com/blog/minor-update-3-for-vivaldi-2-3/
-
This new 2.3.1440.57 includes:
[Regression] Vivaldi hangs by find-in-page under certain conditions
VB-49066
[Regression] Freeze when using Find-in-pageVB-49251
Very good news!
I hope it will fix my issue (as my issue was already there in 2017).
I am installing it right now!!FTR:

Just a brief message to say I'm still experiencing a freeze (in previous versions it was a crash) by using latest stable Vivaldi version. There is no pattern, it's rather random and kills my productivity like no else.
I'm using Vivaldi on Win 10 Home (1803), CPU Intel 3210m, iGPU Intel HD4000, dGPU Nvidia 610m. Vivaldi uses dGPU but it freezes with iGPU too.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Wasn't it already backported to stable version?
-
OK, there were multiple fixed bugs recently.
I've installed the latest snapshot and so far so good.
