'Click' problem gives MS webpage
-
In the last 24hrs I have been getting a Microsoft webpage 50% of the time left clicking on anything, whether it is an info entry or an action button. I disabled all extensions thinking it might be one of them but they produced no change. The page is always the same (
hxxp://www.reimageplus.com/lp/rgn/index.php?
) and is nothing relevant to anything anywhere on the page. I scanned my system with ClamavTK anti virus with nothing found.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Does anyone have suggestions as to further identifying the reason for this?
Even a comment might produce a clue! -
Hi, this is not a Microsoft page this is adware, there are several pages about. This is one but without warranty > https://malwaretips.com/blogs/reimageplus-popup-virus/

@dleon Thanks for the reply. Yes I'm really in Linux Lite 3.6 Xfce. I cannot remember what site I had visited just before it happened, but I have an interest in tech and news sites which I skim looking for allsorts, so I have no idea where it could have come from. It is now a constant, 4 out of 5 clicks produce one of these weird pages, mostly the one I mentioned originally, but sometimes a couple of others crop up, a malware warning page, and also an error 404 page.
I have Clamav and it reports clean. I can clean cookies and cache but they have no effect.
I'm about to uninstall Vivaldi, ensure all traces are gone and reinstall. I will save bookmarks first but if the problem remains I'll start completely afresh.
Btw there are no similar probs with Firefox or Opera.
By the way, also I'm over 70 and haven't visited a porn site for literally years!!

@dleon Thanks for your help, but I appear to have solved it. Kept the bookmark backup, complete uninstall ensuring nothing was left in various folders, reinstall from packages and replace bookmarks with the backup saved earlier. So far no recurrence. Even reinstalled extensions, all fine. Now I'm a bit more aware I will try to id the troublesome site. I admit I was just too trusting that viruses would not appear in Linux! Thought I was more in control than with Windows.
I did uninstall all extensions first but problem remained, so etc.
Thanks for your help and encouragement dleon, it's good to know some folk care! -
