Moving the Status Bar
-
@Hadden89 That'll be to do with the toolbar handling rewrite. Does this work:
#footer > .status-toolbar > div, #footer > .status-toolbar > div > *, #footer > .status-toolbar > div > span > .callout { transform: rotateZ(180deg); } #footer {z-index: 2} #footer > .status-toolbar > div > span > .callout::after, #footer > .status-toolbar > div > span > .callout::before { top: -20px; bottom: unset; transform: rotateZ(180deg); border-top-color: var(--colorBg) } #footer > .status-toolbar > div > span > .callout::before{ border-top-color: unset }
-
//edit: broken in newer snaps (and soon on 2.4 stable)
@LonM Tnx, now I only have to check why also
#footer .button-toolbar-small
(the icon) is flipped; I'll try the whole mod on a clean V-version. Probably I left some old code which do thatOnly if need, this should fix flipped icons
#footer .button-toolbar-small.tile-action tile-none, #footer .button-toolbar-small.image-action.animationAlways, #footer .button-toolbar-small.page-action {transform: rotateZ(180deg);}

@LonM
Any chance to have this "old" mod updated?
Sadly, is one of the several broken ones as#footer
class in not anymore in the code. -
@Hadden89 Does simply replacing every reference to
#footer
with.toolbar-statusbar
work? -
@LonM Tnx, it works partially. JS is fine but CSS don't work as the buttons are now nameless (random string) and use
var
for positions.
Furthermore, their random names change at anyupdatesession (so it's even worse) -
Warning: Toggling UI or going fullscreen will crash the browser.
So don't use this.JS:
Generic mover will work.
Just replace the two"#footer"
with".toolbar-statusbar"
CSS:
/* Fix color */ #browser .toolbar-statusbar {background: var(--colorAccentBg);} .toolbar-statusbar {border: none;} /* Hide popup arrow */ .button-popup.button-popup-above:before, .button-popup.button-popup-above:after {display: none;} /* Fix popup alignment */ .toolbar-medium .button-popup.button-popup-above { bottom: auto; transform: translatey(22px); }

Fwiw, i tired of the relative frequency of custom mods being broken by later Snapshot / Chromium updates, so i've settled on an alternative workflow. The only mod i bother retaining now is @LonM 's cunning
custom.js
one for zoom controls in the Web Panels. Wrt Status, Bookmark & Tab Bars, i now simply use Mouse Gestures to hide & show them on-demand. It's become second nature, & afaik should "future-proof" me. -
@Steffie Moving the status bar cannot be recommended at all anymore, since it's programmatically hidden and cut from the DOM when toggled. E.g. toggling the UI will crash the browser when the status bar has been moved.
-
@luetage I never toggle the UI so I wasn't aware of that. I guess the same happens with full screen?
//edit: yeah, same with fullscreen. Goodbye moving sb, see you later.
To have it back, upvote the request. -
@luetage Exactly [i have been reading the relevant thread/s], & this only reinforces my point. With my revised workflow i should be immune to all such future developmental shenanigans, given i am simply using core V functionality.

On the basis of "continuous improvement" [aka, "unwillingness to leave well-enough alone!"], my V-SS daily workflow has been further tweaked, & for the past month or so includes:
- Vert tabs on LHS [tab thumbnails Off, popup tn's On]
- Status Bar at bottom but hidden, still revealable via MG.
- Status Bar set to "Info Overlay" mode [good, but the bugger gets reset each time i use MG to reveal the SB - hope the Devs fix this]
- Some important SB tools moved up to Address Bar for convenience:
- Bookmarks Bar still at top, sometimes hidden, still revealable via MG.
- Still only using the same @LonM mod [excellent coz it lets me reduce each WP's width considerably]
- All but three of my extensions hidden [into the "tri-dots" zone] of the AB.
- MGs still Rule
Still luvin' it.

@Steffie The most compatible setup will always be the one Vivaldi provides – that's hard to argue. But it shouldn't keep us from implementing what we feel is needed. Modding gives us the possibility to explore and get to know Vivaldi – and shape the browser in a way it might never present itself. All mods have the same chance to break and none can be called safe. Modding isn't for everyone and it's a pain to rely on other people to fix their stuff. I do believe the community is doing a fantastic job in maintaining what can be maintained though, despite the obstacles we face.

@luetage There's nothing you said there with which i disagree, indeed your sentiments are most worthy. My only puzzlement is tone & context; it seemed slightly defensive, almost as some kind of rebuttal to something i had said [but which i can't see to have been confrontational or accusational]. Are we rather at cross-purposes here?
-
@Steffie I don't see any purposes crossing. And if this was indeed the case, there should be warning signs, or someone might run over a poor purpose
