Vivaldi browser for android

Hey,
Old user of Apple devices, I switched to Android not so long ago for several reasons, one of them being... Vivaldi mobile browser probably only on Android.I know I already posted that somewhere a good while ago, but I really wanted to say it somewhere again, and I suppose this thread is the best place for that:
One feature I really expect from the mobile version of Vivaldi is a classic tabs like on computer browsers. Dolphin seems to be the only browser to offer this option and, well, it's a really bad browser for privacy, and it's full of ads, so for now I'm stuck with a version of Firefox, and clearly... I don't like it The only good thing about Firefox Android is the amount of available extensions, and the ability to change the search engineThanks!
-
@goldnoway Could you elaborate on what you mean by "classic tabs" for people that never used Dolphin? As pretty much all android browsers nowdays have tab capabilities.
-
Most mobile browsers don't have an actual tab bar due to limited screen space; hence their pages really can't be called "tabs". Mind you, that may actually be different on a tablet - if you switch Opera for Android to "Tablet mode" it does have a tab bar, and likewise Firefox has tabs on my tablet. Of course if you do want actual tabs on a smartphone you'll have to figure out how to deal with the screen space issue...
As to the "tablet" discussion, I use my tablet as a laptop - it has an attached keyboard and an 11.5" screen, so what else would you call it? Of course, my "desktop" is an 18" laptop (when you get that big perhaps "portable" is a better word than laptop). Does anyone even own an actual desktop any more? I don't own a smartphone (yet), though if I did I'd still use my tablet for most browsing. - it is a lot easier to read text if you don't have to scroll all the time.

Yup, tabs like in actual computer browsers.
There were a lot of browsers with real tabs on iOS a few years ago, unfortunately most of them aren't available anymore, or are filled with advertisements.
This type of tabs may be available on some tablet browsers on Android, but the only choice on a smartphone at the moment is Dolphin. And, as said before, Dolphin is not very friendly with user privacy, and the Android version of this browser place unremovable advertisements in its speed dial (well, you can remove them, but others will soon take their place)...Point is, this type of interface already existed more than once in the past, and I don't understand why it tends to disappear in more recent devices, with more recent technology.
-
@mtaki14 showing actual tabs - you know, the little marker things that are attached to the document windows (while people incorrectly call those windows "tabs").
Edit: @sgunhouse I seem to recall that the old Opera Mobile had a pretty good tab implementation. It took up some vertical pixels but IIRC there were a number of functions squeezed into that bar so it was worth it.
Edit again: looking around it was a hybrid of thumbnail tabs and something like Chrome for Android - a button on the main bar called up a bar of thumbnails you could select, reorder and delete.

Any chance that it will support Chrome extensions (such as another Chromium-based competitor) on Android?
-
Is a (closed) alpha in planning?
If not is it possible to get an early apk? -
@Boendal It will not be released for public testing until it is ready, which may be some way off yet.

The nicest unique feature i've seen so far on an Android browser is Opera's.
The keyboard automatically shows up when opening the app.
No need to first click, type and hit enter into url box.
Other noticeable feature is the right-click option to open an array of options.Opera here is fast but imo, not as fast as Brave (which i like for various reasons too - i.e. BAT crypto).
Don't think any of these features are on the planning stage of the game for Vivaldi here.
-
@jon It will be great!!!
-
Will the Android version of Vivaldi actually look similar to the mobile version of Opera?
-
@MrCrazyBolt5150 Not as far as I can tell. I don't really see any similarity between them.
-
Please for the love of God, implement a word wrap / line break feature into the Android version of your browser. I use Opera on Android just for this reason and I can't understand why not a single other browser has this.

@GoldNoway said in Vivaldi browser for android:
... but the only choice on a smartphone at the moment is Dolphin.
Try Yuzu browser, open source, heavy customizable, good tab closing behavior, Tor (with Orbot) support via proxy settings
Also Lightning (but is unstable with startpage.com). -
Now you can get an info WIR

The possibility to opt-in for a notification when Vivaldi is released exists since months. Moreover it's more than likely that a blog post about it will go up at the same time. It's only useful for people who follow neither the blog, nor the forums.

@Nordlicht Thanks for that!
