Old Vivaldi icon - how to change it back
-
Is there a possibility to change back the new Vivaldi-icon to the original unrounded one?
-
@burbuja
Yep, this is possible (maybe you'll need to change this after every update but I don't know for sure so better make a backup copy of your new-old logo)
Go to:vivaldi://about
copy the path behind "Profile Path" (it should end with /Default) close vivaldi and open that path. In that folder there is another folder called "Web Applications" in this folder again are a few other folders (with cryptic names) one of them contains a file called "Vivaldi.ico" that's the one you want to change. In case this doesn't work as expected better make a copy of the icon with rounded corners also.
Because I don't use any dropbox etc stuff I uploded the old Vivaldi.ico to this site: https://workupload.com/file/2ymAmu3
Size of the file 199,39kb although - as I just tested - the site says something about 204.17 KB dunno but it's the correct file. -
@zaibon Thank you a lot! I will try this. I did this change before, but in:
c:\Program Files\Vivaldi snapshot\Application\1.12.955.3\resources\vivaldi\resources
which worked only partly - in the Windows-Taskbar, but not in the title-bar. -
I just tried, the icon does not change in the title bar.
-
@burbuja Damn, somehow I managed to erase the first sentence of my post in which I stated that this'll only change the taskbar icon -.- sorry for that. Maybe there is a way to change the title bar icon as well but I don't know how.
-
I made this code a while back to keep the clean vivaldi icon in snapshots but it seems this code makes sense for stable builds now too.
But in this case you'll have to patch vivaldi every time a browser update is installed. That's really inconvenient, especially if you have just some small interface changes like that icon.
I wish vivaldi had native custom css/js support…

@oddmorning You can run a batch script automating the process, then it's nothing more but one additional command from the terminal.
-
@luetage That's what I already do. But when I install updates, the updater has a button with text like “install updates and relaunch browser”. So I have to wait for update, wait for browser, close it, launch the batch file, and then launch the browser again.
That's still not convenient enough -
@oddmorning The batch file can close and start the browser for you.
-
@luetage I mean, Vivaldi should not touch the profile. Vivaldi´s behavior is strange.
-
@burbuja The code is saved to the application itself, and the application is replaced on update. The data in your profile path is generally save, if it doesn't get corrupted or something.
-
@luetage said in Old Vivaldi icon - how to change it back:
The data in your profile path is generally save
I did not use yet the css from you, I replaced the vivaldi.ico file in the profile:
c:\Users\Familia\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default\Web Applications\_crx_mpognobbkildjkofajifpdfhcoklimli
Edit: there is also Vivaldi.ico.md5 checksum file, may be it is corrupted from the point of view of vivaldi. It probably checks the cheksum, which is encrypted. The one I generated it is not, of course. -
@oddmorning Hey. Where do I put this line? I tried putting it in common.css, but that did not work (not exactly good at this sort of thing).
