i hate reader view
There are up to three controls in the left side url box: Show typed history, Reader View, and Add Bookmark. The overall issue is that, depending on the page in any given tab, you can have one, two, or all three of these controls. Show typed history is common to every tab, with Add Bookmark and Reader View showing up depending on the page.
I wouldn't hate Reader View so much if Show typed history stayed in place, but it doesn't. It slides to the left if and when the other two show up. I would prefer that Show typed history stayed put, then I could totally ignore the other two when they do show up. But it doesn't, and I wind up hitting Reader View instead of Show typed history, which puts the page in crappy Reader View.
All this could be solved in the future if a disabling toggle were provided in Preferences to disable Reader View.
Request it as feature in the feature-request-thread. If you want an immediate solution you can do a custom modification, and just hide the buttons that get in your way. Or potentially change their order.
If you think a feature is useful and missing in Vivaldi, please make a request.
How to make a feature request for Vivaldi
If you think your problem can be solved by a missing feature, please add a request at https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/48/features-requests in the corresponding thread for your browser version.
Add one line in bold as a short title for the feature and 2-3 lines to describe the wanted feature.
I would if the thread for 1.11 wasn't locked.
@wbeebe Thats because 1.11 has been launched, 1.12 feature request is up though! https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/20037/feature-requests-for-1-12/582
