Kudos for the new browser

first of all let me say kudos for the initiative and effort to build a browser with the amount of options opera used to have! that being said, to be different from the rest, vivaldi needs to be fast, light and most of all secure. i really like the way the tabs' color adapts to the page content, although a certain amount of interface polishing is of course needed. in my opinion, you should abandon the old opera look that you are trying to bring back, and implement new options using modern design philosophy. i have never been a fan of the sidebar, it takes up valuable screen real estate. also, i don't know whether others will agree with me, but the mail client is unnecessary. it will make the browser more resource hungry, and there are already so many free mail clients available. at least make it optional, so that users that don't need it can turn it off.

Given that most displays are wide nowadays, if there's one thing that takes the least amount of screen real estate, that is the sidebar.
not on laptops

what laptop do you use/mean???? I can't remember any 4:3 laptop from last 5 years at least… laptops nowadays are also 16:9 AFAIK.

Long live the sidebar. It is a major reason I like V. Just because something is older doesn't mean it has become irrelevant or a bad idea: look at the wheel. It's an ancient idea but wheels are still round.

Wait - what? Wheels are round?

Actually, if you happen to work on multiple platforms and want to use the same mail client on all of them, your choices are surprisingly few and far between. Basically the best available option is Thunderbird, and it's far from perfect, especially if you want to use it with IMAP mailboxes. So I really wouldn't mind a good multiplatform mail client.

Welcome to vladomkd. Thank you for your positive comments to start your experience with Vivaldi. Please remember that at this point Vivaldi is not even at the alpha stage in its development, so things will only get better and better.
The sidebar is just one of many of the choices that Vivaldi gives us. If you need the extra space just turn it off. If you need access to the sidebars panels, turn it on.
I am just enjoying the ride. I didn't use Opera's email client, but obviously lots of users did. I tried it when it first came out, but for my workflow, MS Outlook works better for me - email, contacts, calendaring, notes, etc. But I do not begrudge the users who want Vivaldi to have an email client. I just won't use it and I will turn it off, if I have the option.
Once I figure out how to sort all of my imported bookmarks alpha-numerically, I will probably start using Vivaldi as my primary browser, with Opera 12.xx as my secondary.
So vladomkd – again Welcome and I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I am.

Like he said: "I am just enjoying the ride."I'm a former long-time Opera fan. Went to Firefox when the old Opera went away. Thrilled to see Vivaldi!

My favorite browser all around, very underated, if I have a problem with another browser I switch to Vivaldi and voilà , problem solved
