block google analytics extension problem
-
hi everyone, recently i've been having brand new problems with this extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-analytics-opt-out/fllaojicojecljbmefodhfapmkghcbnh?utm_source=chrome-app-launcher-info-dialog
which was preventing me to load one specific website in particular but maybe other minor problems i didn't noticed. before recent times everything was running without problems now i'd like to know if something changed in the chromium browser or in google terms and conditions etc.
i ask because i want to understand if i may remove that extension or not for i don't want to leave my privacy and security.
today i also installed another extension named scriptsafe which is great and even enabling the disabling google analytics option inside its own settings i don't really have any problem. -

Well great. If using the new extension works for you I'd stick to that.

ok but the official google extension gives problems with vivaldi, it must be reported for corrputing the browsing. maybe something recently changed in google codes.
edit: ok i reported it in the other thread.

Use uMatrix - or 'hard mode' on uBlock Origin.
-
Better than uBloc Origin is Adblock Genesis, it includes uBlock filters + Ghostery and you can block what you ever want (with Tampermonkey include anti-adblock killer which works fine in most of the sites) and Disconect basic tracking list (view configuration)
-
thanks! i will try these.
-
@urfausto If you're desperate to block it completely, you could also try using your OS's hosts file.
Info on that here: https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/27350/beginner-geek-how-to-edit-your-hosts-file/
And the sites you would want to block include:0.0.0.0 google-analytics.com 0.0.0.0 googlesyndication.com

@urfausto All adblockers spend memory, although uBlock rather less than the usual ones and Genesis Plus is the improved uBlock.
I have an old laptop of more than 10 years and although the adblocker spends some megas, it allows me on the other hand a much more smooth navigation than the one, when instead of this I have to load also all the ads of the websites I visit
But for those who do not want to use an adblocker in the browser, there is an alternative that is installed in the system and that protects from there all the browsers installed, with the added advantage that, when acting from the system is not discovered by the pages and you can also dispense with an anti-adblock killer, it's called AdMuncher
It works great, but does not block ads in YouTube videos as a single catch -
@catweazle interesting but for me youtube ad blocking is basic
that software seems also a bit outdated. (2014) -
Indeed, why bothering with anything than uB0 which already does everything, the others are just lame ripoffs with nothing added apart suspicious call home functions.
-
uBO or Genesis are the best adblockers, without a doubt, apart from being the most efficient, are the least weigh.
But a bigger problem are the crawlers that there are many websites (on YouTube I have counted to more than 40) that leave tracking cookies and other third party junk in the PC, so apart from an adblocker encounter essential apps like Ghostery or similar, that block all this hidden trash. -

But yes, I have AdMuncher, but I hardly use it, more than in places where they do not let me enter with the adblocker of the browser, for this it serves very well. -
@catweazle ghostery is infamously know to have been sold to big corporations that manipulate personal data (like google and shit).
