Netflix stopped working after upgrade to 1.11.917.39
-
@asianmusicguy I don't think it's purely a Widevine issue. I tested Netflix with 1.11 RC2 on macOS and it worked fine, then it suddenly stopped working, apparently while I was still on Widevine 1.4.8.970. I think Netflix did something on their side; that's why I said it may be bigger than a browser sniffing/UA issue. We need to give the devs time to figure out what's going on.
Also, nobody is disagreeing with you on the need for a UA changer in Vivaldi either!
-
@xyzzy well Netflix atlest on the face of it seems to be trying to help so i dont think its intentional heres hoping for a UA switcher in version 1.12
-
@xyzzy 1.11 RC2 released with 970 version of Widevine being live, and with the new version releasing this weekend(?), all 1.11 builds will update to it. If you use 1.10, the highest version you should get is 970. afaik.

@Aronand how comes the investigation ?
-
@asianmusicguy Initial investigation is seeing if our code caused the issue, and if not, what code did, then how to fix it.
-
@Aronand is it to soon to tell a ETA for a fix ?
-
they still have to find the actual bug, so logically no ETA
-
@iAN-CooG understandable just trying to gauge where we are in the investigation pipeline as I am eagerly awaiting a fix as im sure many others are i just want to see if its a "minor" update situation or a long wait... lol
-
Same problem and same error code too with stable version!
-
@Aronand any progress toward a solution or determining who or what is at falut?
-
@asianmusicguy We have an unofficial workaround, but not a definitive fix just yet.
-
@Aronand any way i can sign up yo be the genie pig for such things ? id really like yo test items for the team particularly media fixes as thats my crusade also what was the cause if you dont mind sharing
-
@asianmusicguy Our internal test group "Sopranos" are always looking for members I believe, if you are interested, I would take up contact with @gaelle I think As for the cause of the bug, I dont have much I can share at this time
-
@Aronand that would be great I have several years testing experience testing mostly in unity games this would be my first browser always up for a new challenge
-
@Aronand is this something that could be pushed in a minor update or do you think itll be 1.12

@Gwen-Dragon said in Netflix stopped working after upgrade to 1.11.917.39:
The fix for Netflix come usually in a next update for current Stable (was the update process in the past for important fixes).
Does the team know where the error is? What code would be giving a problem? Or it does not come to be error in code and yes of the Widevine component
-
@Nlope Sorry... I didn't follow up on one of my previous posts.
I don't think it's purely a Widevine issue. I tested Netflix with 1.11 RC2 on macOS and it worked fine, then it suddenly stopped working, apparently while I was still on Widevine 1.4.8.970.
Widevine actually had updated in the background (at the right/wrong time without my realizing it) and this is what caused Netflix playback to break for me on macOS.
-
@asianmusicguy Up until next stable release, we can push minor update on the current final, no worries on that front.

@GlennH said in Netflix stopped working after upgrade to 1.11.917.39:
I don't recommend users install user agent switcher. The plugin was bought out recently and now poses a huge security risk as it sends browsing data and activity to a website and includes malware. More info here: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14889619
Nice catch, Apparently Google themselves bought User-Agent Switcher. So this, no malware check for extensions, is really getting bigger and bigger. I was using Block site as well.
EDIT:
Reading the whole linked forum post and, yeah, two different versions.- By google
- NOT by google
so
Use the one that says: by google.
But I will add: It still doesn't fix the netflix error: M7121-1331-P7
-
I would still trust a custom coded user agent switch integrated by Vivaldi themselves over extensions which may or may not be owned by google as a matter of fact i find it hard to believe google would encourage that so am skeptical and will continue to encourage and push for a in built solution
Aronand has already said in this particular case the DRM module is broken and internal tests are being done on a fix but it has yet to be final
when it is it will most likly be a minor update
please see thw need for one and kindly vote on my long standing proposal
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/20037/feature-requests-for-1-12/105I request this feature in each new version and will continue to do so till it becomes a reality
