Vivaldi is hungry for RAM
Vivaldi on my laptop with 4GB RAM and 4GB swap increases use RAM and SWAP to over top free memory and freeze my Mint 17.3 and 18.2.
Vivaldi not use secure limit for memory usage?
In freezing state work HDD hard and no ended. I must hard reboot notebook. I look into ATOP utility who ruined my disc and in log see Vivaldi huge uses i/o operation with HDD.

Yes, Vivaldi uses a lot of memory, and you don't have very much of it, which is naturally a problem. A single tab can use up to 400MB on my system, in your case that would already be 10%.
Gladly RAM is cheap these days, therefore if your computer allows for an upgrade, I would just double the RAM and your issues should be gone.

Hi, I use a old core2duo laptop and never come even close to start swapping.
There was a bug with corrupted Topsite files and high harddisk/ram usage.
Delete them in your .config/vivaldi/default directory.
You loose your speeddial icons (get back with F5).
Opensuse Leap 42.1 x86_64
CPU Intel T4200 4 GB
GPU Intel GN 965
Vivaldi latest snapshot
@mib2berlin Okay, thanks.
@luetage Thanks, unfortunate for my Dell E6500 with Core2Duo upgrade RAM no possible. Dell use oldest DDR2 and 2x4GB modules is overpriced and buy is not easy.
