String "$1 bookmarks waiting for update." is implemented wrong

  • Vivaldi Translator

Hey, I have reported a bug with bad implementation of (my) translation. But I forgot to attach the video and I since Vivaldi do not sent back auto-generated mail with this option (as Opera does) I'm sending it here to let other confirm this issue :) Video documentation: http://tinypic.com/r/t85kzr/8 I have to admit that it's actually reloading speed dial previews, not bookmarks one... :D (even it says bookmarks) W8.1 x64 with latest x32 snapshot

  • Likely an issue on your language only.

I translated it as "aggiornamento anteprima" (tumbnail update)

  • Vivaldi Translator

hehe, well translated :D but it doesn't matter how translated it is (in source file /EN/ it's "bookmarks" so it is wrong there. No matter that you translated it well to your language :) )

But the point was (in the bug report it's explained better) that it sometimes shows untranslated (original EN string) and sometimes translated (Czech string) EVEN FOR THE SAME NUMBER. - see the video. started with untranslated, after 1 thumbnail it gets translated and after a few another it might get untranslated string again…

I haven't checked the string yet in the sources, but likely I translated it right because the english string was right too.

"$1 BOOKMARKS WAITING FOR UPDATE." is not the right translation for updating speed dial thumbnail :) even that's the used source for it.

Anyway, I translated it and now it's showed in +- 70% right (translated) and +- in 30% in original/source (EN) form.

Now I see that you are speaking about string "Updating thumbnail for $1". That's correct here in any case and with proper source and translation. I am speaking about string used bellow this (string "$1 bookmarks waiting for update.")

  • Ok, I checked better

It says something like "updating X thumbnails" and then "Y bookmarks, waiting for update".

    What's wrong with that ?

  • Vivaldi Translator

    1. it's (also) related to speed dial (my test case) and it use word "bookmarks". (I do not pay attention on that in that case a lot but since you asked…)

    2. according to my video it sometimes in Vivaldi browser (+- 30% of all cases) shows ORIGINAL (EN source) string EVEN IT'S TRANSLATED to Czech. And sometimes the same string is shown correctly (translated)... so it is (randomly) choosing between original and translated string.
-> I don't wanna see source/untranslated string in any case but I do randomly see it.

Well this can be debatable as the SD on vivaldi is just a normal bookmark folder.

And even in the old opera an SD tile is still a bookmark, after all.

OK, finally I got it. This is not a string badly tanslated, is a real bug (glitch to say better), I was finally able to reproduce it after 20 or 30 refresh attempts…

My point was to understand this, if was an incorrect translation I could contact the other translators, but looks like is not the case, is just matter of bug wizard (something you already did, right ?)

That said I never seen that string before in my life, other than in the translation platform, how do you spotted it ? :D

  • Vivaldi Translator

You are right. I already filled a bug report. Hopefully they will get the point and not throw it out before reproduced by them :)

And just to answer and inform you how I spotted it :) - I'm in a translator group too (as you might know). So it's my "work" to spot it :P And it wasn't so hard to spot it since I needed to reload previews and while reloading I was curious how it's translated and… it showed untranslated and then translated sentence. Clearly a bug (as I finally manage you to admit it too :D )

  • I'm not able to find your report to add this thread to it.
