Alphabetival bookmarks

  • On this topic, I have found only one reference by a poster who dismissed the idea out of hand because it did not suit the poster's way of working, I prefer my bookmarks alphabetically arranged and would like to know if there is a way of doing this within Vivaldi without manually shifting them around. It would help considerably to be able to merge my own imported bookmarks with those that are already provided with Vivaldi (some of which I may even use).

  • Whoops!

  • As long as the sorting is made a user opt-in, I would have no objection and can certainly see the merit for some users. Perhaps I'm that "one other poster", but my bookmarks are highly abbreviated and arranged topically (which is how I think). An alphabetical re-arrangement would play havoc with that arrangement if forced upon me.

  • For the past few years in Chromium & Opera-Blink, i have used this extension… SuperSorter, from the Chrome store... https://chrome.google.com/webstore/search/supersorter ... it has worked well therein. I therefore also added it into Vivaldi [back in the original Tech Preview, & thus inheriting it with each subsequent Snapshot til & including the latest]. Obviously like many people i'd prefer the full capability built into V natively, but until that day, this extension might suffice.

Hmmm, though maybe not yet… i suspect it's not working in V, as i just now deliberately manually mis-sorted one of my previously alphabetically sorted bookmarks as an experiment [i'd previously imported all my Opera-Blink bookmarks into V, which were already thus sorted via this extension in Opera], to watch if it soon resorted itself. I've waited much longer than it usually takes for the auto-sort to kick-in, in Opera-Blink, but nothing's happened.

Oh well, i imagine that once the V devs get extension support fully working, it might also begin working as well here as in C & O. Sorry, when i began this post i was trying to help you, but here now at the end of the post, i have not helped at all :(

  • Opera 12.17 has lots of bookmark sorting options. Like Blackbird, I sort my bookmarks by "My Order" and for the same reasons, but other sorting options would be good if it can be done. Some users have a lot of bookmarks. Sorting by Date Created or Visited can be useful for weeding out obsolete bookmarks.

  • 'As long as the sorting is made a user opt-in', & 'Sorting by Date Created or Visited can be useful for weeding out obsolete bookmarks', I agree with Blackbird and Persala here. I use a mix of my own order followed by alphabetical, so being able to do that by drag and drop is fine by me.

  • I agree with having the ability to sort as an option in the Bookmark Panel. I have many hundreds of bookmarks in my Opera 12.xx browsers. I have been accumulated them over the years and they are in different categories and sub-categories. So sorting is a major need for me.

The sorting and a couple of other options for user preferences and Vivaldi will probably become my primary browser. Using V at this stage reminds me of Opera back in the '90s - each new version and we got more - and better - choices and options. I love the adventure.

Indeed, sorting is high priority for me. The O12 options are good and I'd like to see even more added to V.

  • Using 64 bit version.

Yes. It's my first piece of business with Vivaldi. Unsorted bookmarks are hopeless. If somebody enjoy mess it's his/her choice, but there is no hope in hell me going with Vivaldi without such simple and logical function. Ohh.. and on side note add option for bookmarks spelled backwards - for those who like utter mess. :P

Imported my Opera library and simply given up after a while. I would probably have to spend a month or two 24/7 sorting this by hand. I'm not that daft.

Opera 12.17 is still by far best browser on the market. Bring back Bookmark [drop-down] Menu, WTH is the deal with panels for everything. I cannot grasp this idea. Never used, never will. And least Bookmark Bar is back.

Trying to like V but there is too many obvious idiocies from my point of view. And bookmarks are one&two of them.

  • Yes, alphabetical sorting is an interesting option.
At least when importing from Opera 12 and respecting the former order !
