Feature Request: Start Bar
-
Hi Guys, I love the "start bar" feature in Opera. It's something I haven't seen in any other browser and really improves usability and efficiency. Any chances this could be included?

+1
i always use start bar to open bookmarks from and i was thinkig asking for this feature myself.

+1000
No one has mentioned it yet, likely because is disabled by default in Opera and a lot of people never used it.
A lot of default settings in opera are debatable (no go button near address bar and search box, no drop down button in the address bar, no open tab next to active, no start bar…)
So some of its potential was never discovered even by some of the more skilled users.

Yes, exactly! It's always the first feature I enable when I install :cheer: . I haven't found anything similar on any other browser either.

+1, use it every day

+1, this would be quite useful.

Never could understand what Start Bar was for in classic Opera, and so I kept it disabled. I'd love to learn what on earth made it so "useful."

I actually had to go and test what the start bar was when I heard about it a few days ago on the forums here.
It's one of the features of Opera I kept disabled.
However, I can see its usefulness just like I see the usefulness of the bookmarks bar, which I never use.
I totally understand why someone would find it useful to have an autohiding bar that has stuff you need to navigate somewhere else than where you are at the moment (via bookmarks, home page or whatever) and pop up only when you touch the address bar, which is a clear sign you want to change your current location and get out of your face after you decided where you want to go. It just makes sense to me. Do I use it? Hell no!I get it. Multipurpose auto-hiding bar. I can see where some folks would like that.

Yeah, believe me, once you start using it, you'll never go back!
Just like what RRR13 says, when I don't want to follow a link on the current webpage, but instead change where this tab is displaying entirely, I just click in the url bar. This gives me multiple options. I can as usual start a web search by simply typing my query, but now cos of the start bar, I also have within a tiny move of the mouse, the option to go to my home page, to go to my bookmarks and to see the top 10 most popular places I visit… I guess it's a convenient way to see all of your options in one place, rather than deciding beforehand where you want to go
From a usability point of view, it's really neat too -

Already discussed when you was asking for the ancient bookmark bar.
Having most of the needed links w/o having to waste the screen space is incredibly useful.

It was very useful for the bookmarks. I'd like to see it back.

Any update on the start bar? I haven't seen any discussion with regards to new features…

Sorry for the continual bumping! Anyone know if this is even possible or on the devs radar?
