Can we get an actual bookmark button not just the toolbar?

1.0.94.2 (Developer Build) ..Win 8.1
See my post just above yours. You're not using the latest version that now contains a bookmarks bar.

"…looks remarkably like the one in the original Tech Preview version." Really? it's been almost a month, but I could SWEAR the Jan 27 TP I downloaded had a menu that looked like today's, minus several options. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me. Probably.

Thanks.How do I get the latest version.I didnt see that option on the about page.

Some peoples no want side bar to be shown or any other bars just for bookmarks, so…
Steps to open new bookmark when side panel is closed:
1. Open side panel with button in the bottom left
2. Open bookmarks if those were not opened
3. Choose bookmark to open
4. Close side panel with button in the bottom leftThat's 4 steps, if compare to dropdown menu with bookmarks.
Let's say we have main menu like in good old Opera, there we have Bookmarks menu item, we click it (1 step) and select any bookmark we want (2 step). Nothing more are needed, no page resizes are needed to display bookmarks and etc. And this is the easiest bookmarks system to implement.This!

This already exists, except it's on the far right of the address bar, the little banner looking thing next to the dropdown button.

is there a way to have a bookmarks button to open a pull down similar to firefox or the opera of old?

As I said earlier, a button with drop-down ought to be (and I'm sure will be) an option. It will naturally be added in due course.
The whole key, the whole theme of Vivaldi is choices - and the more, the merrier, I say.Bump. Any updates on this?
I am waiting on this precise feature to start using Vivaldi on a regular basis. I wait since day one.
I instantly choose Vivaldi to replace my other chromium-based browsers when I first tried it. I love the control Vivaldi gives you. I'm a power user - the more options or settings there is, the happier I am. A few years ago I used Opera almost daily as my second browser and I miss it, so when I learn about Vivaldi I jumped on it to give it a try.
Please add a quick access button to my bookmarks. I want a popup, not some panel or bar that permanently waste screen space. I want to access my bookmarks within two clicks. No keyboard involved. What about a button on the right of the Search box? This is so simple!
The bookmark toolbar is perfectly fine … for other users who like it. Not for me. They have their way to access their bookmarks, I want mine! This is the only barrier keeping me from using Vivaldi. This new feature would not have any impact on other users who don't use it. I don't care if it would be turned off by default; I'll happily enable it through the Settings screen.
Until then, Firefox will remain my main browser. And Maxthon, my chromium-based main browser. Help me ditch both of them

There should be a bookmark button on the left bar.

Yes, there is. However, I won't use this bar simply for its "bookmarks" button. Such space wasted for a tiny button, no thanks.
I wonder why efforts are made to design clean user interfaces (UI) when I have to immediately pollute it with a whole bar. And this, just to have quick access to a core feature of web browsers - bookmarks.

Don't go mad at Vivaldi for just ONE missing feature you need, there are thousands of bugreports and requests added every day, they try to prioritize things. In the meantime you wait for features added officially, you can apply some simple mods, including a handy bookmark button

You clearly have not understood the value of web panels. The narrow toolbar at the side is a small price to pay for the features that it provides, not only for bookmarks management, but also for downloads, notes, and web panels.
You can also enable the Bookmarks Bar for easy access to bookmarks if you don't like opening the Bookmarks Panel.
-
You clearly have not understood the value of web panels.
You clearly don't understand that the "value" of something is not universal. If it was, everybody would be driving the same car. Everybody would buy the same clothes. Eat the same food. And so on.
Your post might be helpful to newbies who didn't read this thread, but here we talk about a solution that:
[ol]- Will not eat space that should go towards content;
- Does not require more than two clicks to go to a bookmark;
- Does not involve another input method (mouse only, no switch to keyboard);
- Is optional in order not to disturb other usage patterns.
[/ol]
If you like the web panel, it's perfectly legit. I don't ask to remove it. I don't claim you should like the button solution.
Everybody's tastes are different.

As I said, a drop-down button is inevitable. There is no way at this point to predict when it might arrive. If sufficient hue and cry are raised, it's likely to be sooner. As it stands, it's more likely when a) developers find they have some time on their hands or b) full skinning arrives, at which time a user will make one, and those who want it will use it.

You said that you don't need the panel toolbar just for bookmarks. It is useful for much more than that.
[ol]- The Panels Toolbar can be hidden until needed. The Browser Menu Bar also eats up space that could be used for content, even more than the Bookmarks Bar does. The Vivaldi Button menu saves space, but takes one more click
- At least two clicks are required even to go to bookmarks in the root of a bookmarks menu, several more to go to those in nested folders. The Bookmarks Panel can be shown with a mouse gesture. It remembers its last used expanded folder, so one shortcut or one mouse gesture is all that it takes to show the previously used folder of bookmarks, then one middle-click to open a bookmark, or double-click (single-click is an option).
- Mouse gestures can be used or single-key shortcuts
- As AyeSpy says, options will come later, but your aversion to the panel toolbar is preventing you from finding solutions that are available now. The Bookmarks Bar can also be toggled with a Mouse Gesture. I use GestureUp, GestureDown or shortcut "b"

https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/all/8453-bundle-js-moddingI'm not mad at Vivaldi at all… It's the first chromium-based browser I really like. I'm eager to use it on a regular basis but this missing feature keeps me away from Vivaldi from the beginning.
I could simply stay silent, or even worse, uninstall Vivaldi and stop following you guys. But I choose to voice my opinion because I think Vivaldi is an excellent alternative and I would like to see more people using it.
BTW, thanks for the link, I'll check that ASAP.
