Extensions needed

  • In order to test/use Vivaldi it is essential to me that I can use extensions. Without the 1password extension I won't use it at all foor obvious reasons. Actually I will take a look now and then but if I could use extensions I would be using it the whole day! So please make this available to us!

  • I know extensions are on the roadmap, and much like the thread starter, I too would need a password extension for everyday use - I use Lastpass personally.

It may be a good faith move on Vivaldi's part to just contact the most commonly used password system companies, and ask what they'd need in the way of API's or whatnot to bring their extensions to Vivaldi. It's probably easier to get it right from the get-go if you know what they need.

  • You can use google chrome extensions on Vivaldi, though it is a bit of a work around. I have Stylish, Adblock, Xkit, and an imgur extension currently. I located these extensions in my chrome extension directory and was able to copy them to my vivaldi extension directory, and unpack them.

Download and unpack some wanted extension. Then just in vivaldi:extensions tick developer mode and load the extension… I use a few of them from Opera store (works for chrome store as well)

But I just hope that they will support chrome extensions by default with some "official" workaround without needing to mask or install it in a developer mode from unpacked packages...

  • I didn't have to go to any of the effort people are talking about in this thread. Just went straight to the Chrome Web Store and installed extensions as if I was running Chrome. I don't think I set any flags relevant to this, as far as I know it should work for everyone. I've got Ghostery and HTTPS Everywhere installed. Conveniently, they're both fairly "set-it-and-forget-it" extensions, so the fact that they're not exposed anywhere in the UI hasn't hurt anything so far.

indeed. In first build(s) it could not be done this way. In last build it already works as it should. just "add" without any further workarounds. thanks for pointing it out.

  • Does not work for me in latest build on Mac. Vivaldi crashes every time I try to add an extension.

  • Just confirming that the Chrome Web Store and extension installation still seems to be working on latest (32-bit) Windows build, 1.0.111.2.

  • Yes, it is working on Windows but not on Mac (same snapshot).

I get the same with the 32bit Linux build.

  • I, too, was able to just go to the Chrome store and add the extensions I need (Linux 64-bit). However, there does not seem to be a place for the extensions' icon to be shown. E.g., in the case of Ghostery, there is no icon I can click and select/deselect trackers. Am I just missing something? Or is this likely just a limitation of the implementation at this point?

    Great job with this browser!!

Yes, just a limitation of the way extensions are at this point (not really at all) implemented. One ought to begin to consider them at least partially implemented when the UI itself has a clear place to install, uninstall, manage them (without having to type in vivaldi://extensions).

  • I was able to successfully install the Chrome extension for Ghostery on my Linux32 install of Vivaldi, on my elementary OS desktop. Seems to be working just fine, although the Ghostery options icon does not appear on my toolbar.

  • I raised an issue so I hope it will be fixed soon.
