Better Zoom?
-
Any opinions about the zoom features or lack of them? Personally I like to lean back on my rocking office chair, which can go far back in 45 degree angle and read the web pages I've opened. In old Opera I tweaked zoom 150% and zoom 100% mouse gestures as the slider zoom I way too slow and inaccurate to use. Well, I'd of course prefer to see mouse gestures you could modify as you like and do whatever with them, but what about the slider zoom in the browser window? Anyone really sees this as useful or easy to use like it is implemented in both Opera and Vivaldi? In my opionion it is quite unusable to target your mouse to the slider and find a correct zoom level, especially as the slider doesn't have any steps. My suggestion for far better usability: you already have a text/button reset there. How about get rid of the slider altogether and use that same page to put 3-5 small buttons there with different zoom level which you could right click and set your own preferred zoom levels? If someone actually likes that slider, you could of course make this as an option where one could see from two different types of zoom features.

For zooming, I can't think of better ways than those out there, some of which Vivaldi already has:
[ol]-
Slider: Vivaldi already has it near the lower left corner.
[ol]- Currently, it's too sensitive to me.
-
It would be nice if the slide is clickable, where one click on the right would move the slider one zoom step.
[/ol] -
Keyboard shortcuts: I don't know if Vivaldi already has it or not. On other browsers, it's "+" and "-", or "Ctrl+" and "Ctrl-", or something like that.
-
Mouse gestures: I agree they would be nice.
-
Trackpad gestures: I want these. On Safari on Mac, you make a "spread" motion with two fingers to zoom in, for example.

Too bad the only zoom values Blink will allow are in 10% jumps. Opera 12 could zoom 110, 111,112,113,114,115 percent - whatever you wanted. That was proper zoom.

Hi,
there is no set step size on the zoom level. It was just a decision made when the slider was made.
I agree that there are room for improvements for the zoom functionality.

I agree10% steps are far too coarse, also being able to use left and right arrows to zoom would be more controllable.

André SchultzGood to know. Since EVERY Blink browser does it in 10's, I figured that had to be a restriction of the engine.

I used +/-/* for zoom/reset in Opera, but it is not working in Vivaldi and there is no option to set keyboard shortcut for zoom. Not yet.. -

Works with the 32bit Linux version, too. Can't find a key for reset, though.

Totally agree with you zimboman!
I want Zoom controller like this:
FirefoxMaxthon
And option to place Zoom controller to the address bar.
The most important for me is an alternative mouse combination Right Click + Wheel for Zooming!
BTW I am already using Right Click + Wheel (AHK script) for zooming in browsers. This is awesome! -

Of course, the "reset" button by the slider is the thing that works best, of the current implementation.

It's not one-handed, but ctrl+wheel does a nice job on zoom.

Right + Click mouse wheel or any kind of support for customized gestures where you can manipulate zoom to your liking would work for me.Keyboard shortcuts for zooming should be obvious, but I want zooming with mouse only as well.
I'll quote RRR13 from another topic: "Mouse and keyboard combinations are awesome and the fastest, but I also want the option to do everything via mouse-only or keyboard-only."

over here on XP sp3 "-" works for zoom out, but "+" cycles through tabs.
going to see on win7.edit:
it does work on win 7.
and it works on xp now too! :silly:also:
6 - reset zoom
7 - zoom out by 0.5x
8 - zoom in 2x
9 - zoom out by 10% -
also:
6 - reset zoom
7 - zoom out by 0.5x
8 - zoom in 2x
9 - zoom out by 10%Great. Also seeing the same with the 32bit Linux build.

I use the tilting wheel as (system wide) zoom control, given the default side scrolling function is rarely needed, at least on my usage scenario.

BTW I am already using Right Click + Wheel (AHK script) for zooming in browsers. This is awesome!I absolutely agree. This is the most effortless way to zoom. Firefox's Firegestures extension allows it.
