Reliable Session Backup & Recovery

  • Re: Feature requests for 1.9 / 1.10

Yesterday I lost ~170 Vivaldi Tabs due to two OS crashes in short time. Just before the second crash I started Vivaldi, but it didn't have the time to completely load the previous session or maybe the session even wasn't saved before the frist crash.

Anyway, that really mustn't happen. Session backup and restore with just the four Previos/Last Session/Tabs files in Vivaldi\User Data\Default is not a safe way to ensure that users don't lose tabs in the case of crashes.

Maybe take a look at how Firefox handles that as an example how to do it better, with that I could recover most sessions in similar situations.

My current version is 1.9.818.50 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)

  • You can save open tabs as session, which will be permanently stored in your profile. If you got 170 tabs going it might be a good idea to use this from time to time.
