Can you make more choices for those who have a slow internet connection? How to remove images from: vivaldi: // bookmarks /

The bookmark image is generated from the tab and saved locally so there's no internet connection involved. Only if you click the button to regenerate a new thumb then it will really re-download the page.

As well as making the browser something not so heavy and with so many effects and animations that do not make the actual functionalities. Remember Opera 12 please! 🙂

This is hard because the team is small so they don't mess much with the Chromium part. Opera 12 was built with performance in mind, Chrome not. Chrome is a ripoff from Safari, which in turn is also terrible on performance, which is a ripoff from KHTML which was not that awesome when Apple forked it. Chrome is good with JavaScript though, but JS is just one layer of a browser.

Anyway the team works on them. Recently in internal builds the devs made Quick Commands great again, new features and improved performance.

Hey... Dems' fightin' words! You can talk crap about Chrome all you want and I'll agree with you 100%. Safari is lightweight by comparison... and definitely doesn't "stink" as much now as it used to! 🙂

Dems' words to salivate over! Do you mean the massive lag when entering text in F2 has been fixed? I'd so like to be able to type in the field to search rather than type text elsewhere and paste it into the search field. Now me eager for me eager for next snapshot.

  • having an issue with newest build it will not ask to save any passwords any longer. the option IS selected and did work before this update and yes the v is missing at the top

  • @th3drizzl3: also when i click any link from yahoo mail im getting two of that page opening not just one

@xyzzy Now it's better, true, but when Blink was forked it was bad. And it's still only better than Chrome. Which is not that much. 😆 😛

@An_dz Chrome was based on the original WebKit code. Safari has moved on to WebKit2. With the blink fork, Chrome and Safari are effectively free from one another, and both have since been able to improve considerably in their own ways as a result.

  • This is all well and good, but I have a few problems that I hope you hear me out on.

First off, no matter how many times I try to download Adobe Flash-both in the WWE Network Account I have and on Facebook it says that the player is out of date. Youtube is fine, which is why I haven't uninstalled the browser yet (Spotify is...iffy at best)

Two, I can't access the website for my Financial Institution on this browser (Chessie Federal Credit Union), it goes through a constant log in cycle that keeps pushing me out of the site when I go to access my bank account.

Three, I'm still kind of p/o'd that the Mail Client is still not implemented into Vivaldi, as it was promised back when I first joined during the Beta. I get that the Web Based email system is great-but I was expecting something closer to Opera-where there was a program I could access both in and out of browser w/o having to redirect to that page. This is more of an observation if anything, but it goes back on what this website promised earlier/

I'm not trying to sound ungrateful, as I've been with this browser since the beginning-and it's not the first time I've brought the web client email up. I'd just like to see more bug fixes and potentially adding in all the features as promised in the beta.

That's all, thank you guys for hearing me out

WWE and Facebook USE whichever Flash plug-in you have installed - you don't download Flash plugin from them. Also, You tube doesn't use Flash any more.

As you don't say what your version is - get the download directly from Adobe:
    see https://help.vivaldi.com/article/install-flash-player-for-vivaldi/

Can't check this without a login, but I would suspect that they don't recognise Vivaldi. Try installing a "user agent switcher" from the Chrome Extension Store (via Tools/Extensions "Get more extensions" )
and then set it so that you identify as Firefox or Chrome.

The mail client is still being worked on. We will see it "when it's ready" (working well enough so that no data is lost).

    See e.g. https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/16510/email-client

Try to clear your all password & cookies then recreate it.

If you don't want to loose your password collection, consider to enable chrome://flags/#password-import-export. You could export-import your password as CSV (plain text file).

I have same problem like yours with Google (new) login page after last update.
For me, I use the first method, actually I clear everything. The question to save password then pop up.

    Note:
Vivaldi own clear password seem doesn't work (again). I use vivaldi://chrome/settings/clearBrowserData instead.

  • Someone can confirm this bug for me.
It is not opening in the new tab when searching by the search field.

  • @JuniorSilva30
Make sure the box is ticked at
Settings > Search > Always search in new tab

  • @JuniorSilva30
    Confirmed on me.

Even with option "Always search in new tab" ticked, it will always search in current tab.
Need specifically to use Ctrl+Enter to achieve the wanted behavior.

    Edit:
Ctrl+Enter open result in background tab.
Ctrl+Shift+Enter, Ctrl+Alt+Enter & Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Enter open in new window. Is it suppose to be like that?

    Yes it's checked!
It is not working as it should be, it opens on the same tab. 😕

Thanks for confirming! I was thinking it was just a problem here. ☺

  • Two problems right off today:

    1. No "About" in settings, so I had to look up the file to find the version
    2. Page doesn't scale to open window at http://www.lpga.com/tournaments/volvik-championship/leaderboard

    hm? it's help/about

    1. Page doesn't scale to open window at http://www.lpga.com/tournaments/volvik-championship/leaderboard

Not sure what does this mean, the site seems to work for me.

  • Moderator

@highstream "About" is in Help, not Settings.

a general option on all window tabs to show or not the images

    Untick:

    Show Popup Thumbnails
    Show Tab Thumbnails
at Vivaldi options Tabs > Tab Display > Tab Options.

Thks but I do not have that option in:
Vivaldi 1.9.818.50 (Stable channel) (64 bits)
    Linux operating system

As well as making the browser something not so heavy and with so many effects and animations

More leaner Vivaldi is obviously a continues work. I say, today Vivaldi in Linux is less heavy than its older predecessor, although other people experience other wise.
Untick "Use Animations" at Vivaldi options > Appearance. You lost all animations though.

How to remove images from: vivaldi: // bookmarks

    No easy way currently.
Delete "Top Sites" file in your Vivaldi profile after you close Vivaldi.
Make empty file with same name and make it read only. My experience, it will eventually crash Vivaldi and or Chromium/Chrome. That image on bookmarks is Chromium feature. It automatically created when you create bookmarks and or visit the site.

If I crash, I'd rather wait for some other solution.

    Huh?!
Those options available in settings since forever.

About bookmarks images, yeah I also like to see more better options.
I personally post identical related request in current Feature Request thread; https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/125646
