min features for a browser

  • Hi all!

I got annoyed for my lifetime by any browser, please, let me explain.

I am a retired software developer and as windows got into life in 1995 I
made a huge administration program that took up too much memory -
3 MegaByte of RAM was all the computers had to offer.

No programmer would have dared to develop a browser that took up
1 MB of memory - today's browsers take up 1000 times as much.

Today some help comes from RamFree Addons and TabSuspender
Extensions but thisis more pain than help -

all of my 8 GigaBytes of memory and make Windows telling me
"out of virtual memory" when there are 5 windows
with each 20 tabs open !!!

Franky, I am so new to Vivaldi that I have no idea,
whether this browser is better and already respects
the things I reflect on, but anyway -
I want to mention these points just to ask you to keep them in mind.

Responsible Memory Management as mentioned above
serialize unused unpinned TABs onto the local fileSystem after 2 Minutes.

A totally new and natural understanding of "browser-history"

I do not want to find URLs in the history. I want to find "closed TABs" in the history.
so if I opened an Item from history that I had visited 2 years ago then I want to
go back and forth from this page as if I had if kept open for 2 years!
(okay, this is some challenge for developers because I would have several ways to go
forth once I frequently had navigated around from this place ...
but it is essential for the browser to be called a tool)

A totally new and natural understanding of "browser-session"

Never should I be obliged to save a session.
Every browser window should be auto-saved as a Session in the history.
So if I want to reopen a session from 2 years ago then I would simply
go to History/Windows and re-open the Session Window from 2 years ago.
And every TAB in the reopened Session Window should be able to go
back and forth as it would have done 2 years ago.

    Informative Tabs Bar

The Browser should let me see up to

    • 50 TABs in small letters and with
      long titles
      with windows-preview on hover

    • 50 favorite links symbols with short titles

per browser window on the left side
of the browser in an auto-hiding panel.

This is what I call the Minimum Essential Requirements of
each and every serious Web Browser.

I am glad that you, the Developers are listening to feedback and
I am hopeful that you, the Developers - or some of you - regard
the minimum browser requirements just like me (or similar to me).

    yous, Gerald

As you are a developer, your ideas may be alright.
Some issues have to get fixed and features to be made better.
Thanks for your ideas and suggestions. And perhaps you could help the team to hunt bugs if you like?

And I suggest you … please make bug reports and feature requests.

How to make a feature request for Vivaldi
If you think your problem can be solved by a missing feature, please add a request at https://forum.vivaldi.net/category/48/features-requests in the corresponding thread for your browser version.

If you found a bug, please report the issue to the developers to fix it.

How to do a bugreport for Vivaldi
Report every bug seperately at https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/
Describe the issue as precise as you can.
If you use any extensions please give information which ones you use.
If you have a URL or a own testpage which can checked, add it to the bugreport.
If you have own testcase files (HTML, CSS, JS etc.) add them to the confirmation mail you get after report.
If you have a screenrecording video, you can attach it to give the developers a hint how this might happen or look like.
You will get a bug confirmation mail and in a reply to this mail you can add more information and files as attachments for the testers and bug tracking team.

Thanks in advance for helping us to make Vivaldi better!
