1.8.770.56 Stability (64- vs 32-bit)

  • Vivaldi is crashing without warning with only one or two tabs (55% of RAM free).

I'm using uBlock to clean up webpages, leaving mostly text and images. If a video link is present it is not activated automatically.

    Extensions:
    HTTPS Everywhere
    Save As MHT
    Slick RSS
    uBlock Origin
    uBlock Origin Extra

    Mods:
Hooks (Bookmark button, 3 CSS statements)

System is stable with Firefox (also using uBlock Origin).

  • Please tell us:
    Which URL of the page?
    Wich Vivaldi version?
    Which OS?
    Which Extensions do you use?
Did you try to reset the Vivaldi profile?

  • I installed Vivaldi 1.8 like 3 days ago from scratch (deleted all user data in ..\Local\Vivaldi folder).
    Windows 8.1 (x64)
    1.8.770.56 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
    Site #1
    Site #2

  • I tried a clean profile.
I cant see any crashes with these URLs.

  • Installed the 32-bit version to test.

Saw a debug.log file in Vivaldi's application folder.

  • The 32-bit version has not crashed yet.

  • Did you update to 1.9 Stable?

If the 32bit is more stable on, please use it; that will not have any bad effects on browsing.

  • Yes, but Hooks mod breaks Vivaldi stable 1.9, even after removing Hooks the browser doesn't start unless you delete Vivaldi's folder and reinstall it.

Only thing I need from Hooks mod that is not CSS stuff is the Bookmarks button.

  • @liyin said in 1.8.770.56 Stability (64- vs 32-bit):

Yes, but Hooks mod breaks Vivaldi stable 1.9, even after removing Hooks the browser doesn't start unless you delete Vivaldi's folder and reinstall it.

Plenty of people use it without problems, and besides, as explained in the github page, all you need to do to remove Vivaldihooks from Vivaldi is to edit browser.html and comment/remove the line
    <script src="jdhooks.js"></script>

  • I did that, but couldn't get Vivaldi to start, reinstalled 1.9 again from scratch and tried again with the same result.

Only using the Bookmarks button .js and a few UI and Speed Dial CSS statements in one .css file.

  • remove all your additions and add only the provided js, you probably messed up something in your files

  • I confirmed the problem happens after I run Vivaldi stable 1.9 with the mod.

But doesn't happen with Vivaldi stable 1.8 with the same mod.

Each time I reinstalled the browser, I deleted the User Data and the Vivaldi app folders.

Only thing changed was the addition of the Hooks mod.

    0_1493319369300_s3.png

  • Removed the .css file and only left the Bookmarks button and got the same result.

Is anyone using the Bookmarks button with Hooks in stable 1.9?

Will continue posting about this issue in the Hooks thread.

  • me for sure I leave many active:
    alt-key-menu.js
    bookmarks-button.js
    change-speed-dial-image.js
    close-button-fix.css
    cookiepassword-highlight.css
    copy-searchfield.js
    download-tab.js
    fix-graveaccent-hotkey.js
    go-button.js
    home-button-hide.css
    jdhooks-startup-settings.js
    loading.css
    loading.js
    move-window-buttons-maximized.js
    new-notes-at-the-top.js
    newtab-middleclick-pasteandgo.js
    panel-right-toggle-button.css
    qc-close-tab.js
    searchfield-current-engine-icon.js
    speeddial-items-geometry.js
    speeddial-shortcuts.js
    unicode-url.js
    zoom-control-wheel.js

and then some other added by me gathered here and there in the forum:
    _address-bar-show-progress-always.css
    _find-bottom.css
    _minimize-extensions-padding.css
    _overlay-panels.css
    _speeddial-hide-buttons.css

  • Downloaded updated mod files and it's working now with Vivaldi stable 1.9.

  • Did the instability disappear? I yes, we can close the 1.8 thread.

  • Yes, 1.9.818.44 (Stable channel) (32-bit) is running stable, no crash yet.
